2010 DSA(Direct School Admission)

BusyB:
Yes, bring him around to give him some idea what his options are. My boy ruled out all the \"Chinese\" schools like HCI & DHS. We went to a few open houses, and he applied eventually to 2 schools only. The \"fall-back\" was his own affiliated sec school. My boy is an average student but quite an all-rounder.
I've got to bring him \"racky\" around this year  . Then, based on his this year P5 year end results, we've got to sit down and analyse and decide on the choice(s) for DSA next year. Must be practical and limit the application too, else will use up too much time and effort in the process which may / may not yield results :xedfingers: .
I'm asking in general, so that if there are parents out there willing to share, there can be more light thrown on the various schools selection process so that parents applying for different schools can have an idea of what to expect. -
BusyB:
Totally agree with ya, busyb, it was very challenging as we were just as clueless.Mathsparks,
Really looking forward to your sharing of the DSA portfolio, interview etc. For some of us with kids going thru' this 1st time process, it sounds daunting.
My DS is from the mainstream and I am worried that with his slightly average results and not so outstanding CCA, there is hardly much chances for DSA acceptance next year in P6. However, I am keen to try and let him go thru' the process, so that it will give him exposure, build his experience and he will get to know where he stands and when compared with others and be motivated to put in the effort to get the school of his choice.
It would be great if parents who has gone thru' the process can share how the different secondary schs go about conducting the DSA selection and what your kid has gone thru'. Thanks in advance for all the guidance and sharing.
Since each parent focus on only a few schools, I think its difficult for anyone to come up with the entire process which varies from school to school.
But you've the benefit of > 100 pages of experience here. Happy reading!
Have also shared my kid's experience with 3 schools here, if you've missed it.

Thanks, Mathspark, for taking time to share on the DSA portfolio.
Looks like I better start looking into this, even though DS is in P5 now. Looks more \"chimp\" than my job application resume :!: Maybe it's becos my DS has nothing to put in there and I think I need to scatch my head very hard to think of something to put in :stupid:
Really appreciate those parents who are so selfless in sharing info. This really makes this forum very useful and informative to clueless parents like me. Thanks again. -
you’re welcome, keroppi, kawan and busyb.
