I am not involve in any PV work, or GRL. So that means the only choice I have is Cantonment Pri...

How is Cantonment Primary in general? I happened to chance upon their PSLE results for last year, and the students seems to be performing fairly ok. But not sure if there are a lot of foreigners though.

        http://www.cantonmentpri.moe.edu.sg/cos ... id=1218667

I am a former student of Hong Wen Pri school. If u were in my position, would you register your child for Cantonment Pri, or Hong Wen Pri?

For Cantonment Pri, its about 20 mins walk from our house. For Hong Wen Pri, will have to take a sch bus, or Northeast Line, alight at Boon Keng, and walk to the school, and I have no idea how far away is the sch from BK mrt station.
Hong wen is a very good school, if you drive, you can consider sending your child to Hong Wen school and let him take the school bus back. where do you stay? Is Cantoment the nearest school from your place?

the other option is to apply for PV now, not sure if the application date is over

Hi kaisuDad, thank u v much for your info n the pictures. U attended their open house?

Unfortunately, I dont drive, n the nearest school to where we r staying will be Cantonment pri (1-2km). The next nearest will b ZDPS, RMPS, RVPS (2-3km), follwed by APS (3-4km).

I am an ex-HW student, so can register under P2A (2)? Having said that, not sure of the chances of getting in.

Whats your view on this? To go for Cantonment Pri, which is abt 20 mins walk from our place, or HW pri, whereby I will either need to send him to sch by train, or sch bus.

As for ZDPS, RVPS, RMPS n APS, can basically say the chances of securing a place is near to zero?

Hi addy08, pardon my kapo-ness. My thots.

Impt things to consider if you intend to send your child to HW: The after school care, school transport after CCA and remedial classes etc etc. And since you don't drive, you may even have to consider shifting home in future.

my hubby and i were initially tempted to just send our kids to our decent Pri sch (2 schs to choose, 15-25km away). However, thinking deeper, it's going to be six years of sending and fetching early in the morning, and if there's siblings, it'll be even longer :yikes: . We decided that distance :snooze: is more important and we both agreed that it's not worth shifting homes (maybe if it's nanyang or henry park, we will definitely shift!!! no hesitation!!! :siam: ).

I have no idea how good HW is. You may want to visit the school to have a feel. What people say may not reflect the real things. See if you want your child to study there, ask urself if it's worth all the traveling times. In the mean time, maybe you may want to first increase your chance by joining HW alumni first? And also look around schools within 2KM, do PV.

                Yours situation is very tricky

Cantoment is not really that bad, I heard there are quite a number of very good students there. Especially some PRC students are very academical. If you think you child likes to study, you can put him in any primary schools, he will still excel. The crucial part is the friends he makes in the school, they will influence his direction in life. We actually tried to observe some primary schools, monitoring their student's behavior. You can try to peel at cantoment primary in the morning and after school to help you decide. One particular school which I can't mention, the school prefects have to follow the students onto the public bus to make sure they behave.

As for Hong Wen, you should try to join their alumni, if they have. Phase 2A1.

base on the distance you mentioned, I bet you must be living at \"the sail\" or nearby. You also mentioned that you can take north east line to hong wen primary.

I can't really advise you, but my views are,

                1) 20 minutes walks to school is quite strenuous
                2) Hong wen is just 400 meters from Boon keng MRT. If your son were to take MRT, the crowd is still acceptable before 710am. It will take your son 7 minutes to walk from the MRT to Hong Wen.

I agree with what kanchong said, you should check out the bus transport too. Call the school for the bus operator's number and talk to them.

Another option is you can check out wit the parents in your estate on the possibility of carpool

CPS 2013 PSLE results for 2013, 76.9% of the students posted to Express Stream. That was impressive indeed.

This had made me relooked at ZDPS results ( as posted in their Jan 2013 Open letter to parents ). In 2012, 43.57% of the students taking 4S course is eligible for Express Stream. The figures for 2011 & 2010 were 46.21% & 42.86%. I wonder how much lower wd the percentage of students eligible for Express Stream be of all the students and not just those taking 4S.

Worried, I searched the nets for comparison and managed to get QPS’s corresponding figures from their website. I compared only the % of the students taking 4s course eligible for Express stream here. QPS figures were 76.8% in 2013, 63.5% in 2012 & 70.8% in 2011. Much better than ZDPS and QPS is only another neighbourhood school.

One difference I noted was that QPS’s figure was for % eligible for Express ( with E/NA ) and for ZDPS, it was % for Express ( without E/NA ). Can any seniors KS here tell me the difference ? :?

So KS seniors, am I right to conclude that If I were to send my child to ZDPS and assume that his PSLE performance is average right down to the 50 percentile of all the students taking 4S, he wd not be eligible for Express Stream ?? The situation wd be even bleaker if he is at 50 percentile of all the students. :scared:

Had I interpreted the data wrongly ? Senior KS & anyone.... ..What is the national average for Express ( with E/NA ) and for Express ( without E/NA ) ??? Why didn’t MOE give them a standard format for reporting PSLE statistics ??? :? :? :?

My boy is born in Yr 2009, and will be due for P1 registration next year.
As for Hong Wen, you should try to join their alumni, if they have. Phase 2A1.
Just want to highlight that it is already too late to join their alumni.

This is for this year, which is likely to be the window for next year:
\"For a child whose parent is a former student of the primary school and who has joined the alumni association as a member not later than 30 June 2013.\"

That said, Hong Wen has not conducted a ballot for P2A since 2006. Thus, you should be safe if you apply in this phase.

Given that you only have 1 school <2km :scratchhead: , you should apply for Hong Wen at P2A and secure a place first. If there's no ballot at P2C for Cantonment Primary, you can consider withdrawing from Hong Wen and reapplying at Cantonment Primary if it serves your overall needs better.

Any possibility of shifting nearer to Hong Wen?

Given the choices you have, personally, I think you might as well register with HWS in P2A2. You have missed the deadline to join their alumni association, so you will only qualify under P2A2. In the event that you need to ballot in P2A2 and don't get in (touch wood), you may then consider Cantonment in P2C.

Spending 20 minutes walking to Cantonment, to me, is no different from taking the MRT and walking to HWS.

Of the schools you mentioned, you may probably still try Zhangde to see if they are still open for PV application. I believe Zhangde still accepts PV at this point in time. Having said that, I do not encourage you to do so.

As for the other schools, don't even dream of entering them. You will not get the chance and PV applications have already closed long ago.

BTW, HWS is a good school. I have been to the school and like it personally.
