      Sheray:
Hi All... Seeking your kind advise...

Situation: My son is currently registered with Ngee Ann Primary (but we are staying within 1 km of Poi Ching & St Hilda).

Should I withdraw from NAPS and try for Poi Ching in Phase 2C (as logistics is easier & less tiring for son) and risk balloting?

If I fail to get into Poi Ching, what other primary schools is suggested for Phase 2C Sup?

      Thanks!!!

      So Stressed!
If your distance to NAPS is manageable, ie. within 2km, I suggest you stick to it. If you are inclined to gamble, make your decision on the morning of the 3rd day while monitoring the situation at Poi Ching and St Hilda's.

Poi Ching 2013: 96 applicants for 71 places (ballot SC <1km)
Poi Ching 2014: ?? applicants for 75 places (likely require balloting <1km)

      St Hilda's 2013: 70 applicants for 35 places (ballot SC <1km)
St Hilda's 2014: ?? applicants for 54 places (likely to require balloting <1km)

You want to give up a firm place for a shot at the unknown? In the worst case scenario, you may end up with a logistically more challenging and physically more tiring scenario for your son. Hence, if there's no balloting involved, feel free to go for either school. Otherwise, stay put.

I think people should stop thinking too much and stress themselves up unnecessarily.

I thought 96 is total registered but might not be all qualified to ballot. Unless all are SC staying within 1km

96 is indeed total registered. But in situations where balloting is required for those within 1km, the total registered is also very likely to be the number of parents going for balloting. This is because many school administrators would have told parents to withdraw or not to register if they stay more than 1km away, so that they can consider going to another school instead of wasting their chance for that Phase.

When balloting is held beyond 1km, then the total registered number will include a number of parents who do not need to ballot. So that number cannot be used to estimate how intense the competition is going to be.

          Example:
          1) If there are 100 applicants for 10 places, with
          - 5 applicants < 1km
          - 50 applicants 1-2 km
          - 45 applicants > 2km
then the probability of getting a place would be 5/50 for those 1-2km away.

          2) If there are 100 applicants for 10 places, with
          - 1 applicant < 1km
          - 4 applicants 1-2 km
          - 95 applicants > 2km
then the probability of getting a place would be 5/95 for those >2km away.

                  what are the benefits?

benefit is that it is a co-ed sch, so if I get into rosyth, my DS will benefit in 4 years time .

insider info this year P2C very competitive. … not 1km no hope for popular sch

Sigh…no need insider info I also know….which year is P2C not competitive for some schools? I think some parents are left with no choice when there’s no school for them within one km.

does balloting for Phase 2B take place across Singapore schools tomorrow at different timing? There wont be any school conducting the ballot today?
