Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)

In the first place, we received the appointment date via email even before GAT 20 june. We were quite surprised because my ds has not gone thru GAT yet, why the appointment date was fixed.
We thought there was ‘hope’.
It was wasting our time -
oh dear, this is quite bad, waste of everyone time

I’m sorry to hear of ur son’s unpleasant experience. I honestly hv never come across such a negative experience from past yrs’ of ri dsa discussions within my social circle. I guess only ur son n the interviewers will be able to explain the build-up leading to the ‘put-down’ and whether the tone n phrasing used was appropriate.
I hope ur son will hv a smooth journey to a sch of his choice where he will be happy enjoying his teen yrs! All the best for PSLE! -
I more happy to receive the not being accepted via email or phone call.
now we dont even know how was the GAT result, pass or fail.
That teacher asked us to come for an interview. Guess she knew beforehand who will be selected. Wasting people time. I had to sacrifice tuition time whereby my ds could learn more things rather listening to her bo liao things. -
Is there any misunderstanding or miscommunication?
My friend’s ds applied via sports (track) and had a v pleasant experience with the teachers there. -
Our sports very easy to check thru online. Can’t hide anything. Infact if she is looking for a certain point, my ds is already out. She should not invite us for interview at all. The moment we stepped into the room, she told us they will not consider my ds as his points are out of their range. In other words, she knew beforehand whom she will be selecting, right.

I understand that most school coaches already have the right candidates in mind but they have to go through the selection protocol.

I think this is very wrong of them. They should have disclosed at the outset that over the years Mainstreamers applying through Academic had almost zero chance of success BEFORE we submit. They should have highlighted this in the application form so that applicants can decide whether they want to take the gamble.my ds went for the interview, and straight away 'we will not consider your application' on his face. It is like a slap to him. si bei hao lian
The sentiment here is that we were all given false hopes with all these encouragement from RI teachers and students and special tours for top students and RIPMWC shortlisted participants, being led to GAT and even the final interview stage(for some)
.
It is a total waste of time and money for most of us but for some it is demoralising for the child. Yes one can argue it can be part of the character building to learn to pick oneself up from defeat but seriously a lot of us here would have channel our precious time to focus on PSLE preparation instead of wasting time on application, test, interview.
Peace. Hope future parents will find this information useful. -

Please do not form judgements based on a one-sided story, told by a particular forummer..
If you have been following the DSA 2014 thread closely, you would have read that this parent complained that she & her boy had to stay in the room to listen to some 'bo-liao' stuffs from the teacher, after being told that her boy did not make it to the next round (ie. Sports trials). Apparently, the teacher did not break the news harshly to the boy. This parent even mentioned (in the DSA 2014 thread) that 'the room was filled with laughter', and her boy took the whole matter pretty positively..
If this parent was not happy about how the matter was handled, why did she not clarify with or confront the teacher there & then ? Why pretended to laugh, then complained in this forum thereafter?
I believe the teacher must have advised the boy not to give up and encouraged him to work hard and join the school with his PSLE results. That, of course, was considered 'bo-liao' to this parent, as I believe the only thing she ever wanted to hear from the teacher was \"nah, CO for your boy\". Everything else was 'bo-liao' to her !!
If one day, RI announces that it will not be excepting DSA applications from Mainstreamers, coz the chances of them getting COs are near to zero, do you think people will compliment the school for being so kind & honest, since that will help people save time & money, and heartaches too ? I am very sure if that really happens, people will complain (even more) that the school is not being fair and discriminates against Mainstreamers !
Parents are very well-informed these days (ok, maybe NOT all). We know the chances of Mainstreamers being offered COs (Academic) by RI are extremely low. We do not need the school to 'highlight this fact on the application form', as suggested by you. However, if we decide to go ahead and let our kids try DSA to RI, we have to prepare our kids (& ourselves) to accept the outcomes, whatever they may be..
It is so ungracious & unreasonable to point fingers at the school(s), every time we cannot get what we want. Is this the kind of examples we want to set for our kids ?!

That teacher was ex-RGS girl. Homecoming event is in 8 days’ time. Don’t want to embarrass her further. No need to break people’s rice bowl.
And also not to demoralize the school, when some boys were being stomped, when they spilled their drinks in MRT.
