As responsible and kiasuparents, I think our children's portfolio should not just stop at DSA portfolio.

I continue to keep my children's secondary school records in a gigatic ring file. In case, they need to present them for future applications to any course in the university.

For instance in my daughter's case - SYF Chinese Dance - Gold with Honours. A certificate is given for the achievement.

Do they get that for each year of participation??? I am just thinking about school band. I think only from P4 onwards then will they participate in those performances,etc... So I suppose by P6, they should have 3 certificate????

Err I think the SYF is held in alternate years. My daughter only participated when she was in Primary 5. So she only has one SYF certificate.
But there were other dance competitions not held by SYF... so she has definitely more than one dance certificate.

If I am not wrong, the DSA portfolio is more for the GEP students applying for DSA.

For mainstream students, they just need to download the appln form from the school's website. Different schools have different requirements but generally, the photocopied result slips(pri 4 to 6 midyear) , cca and academic awards and achievements are definitely a must. Some schools require a personal statement by the child and teachers' recommendations.

Actually some schools don't even ask for the certificates until the results of the HAST are out.
Schools don't specifically mention that GEP students need to submit portfolio while others don't need to. They would likely say that relevant documents to be submitted.

I’m not saying it’s compulsory to have a portfolio; please check and the decision’s yours whether you wanna prepare anot.

It depends on the sec school to set the points. For most schools, just making the express stream cut-off points will do (for some schools, this is 188, for some, they take 200).

I noted that there are 2 cut off. Eg. affiliation and non-affiliation. So in the case of DSA, which do we apply? My niece was telling me affiliation.

Also, any idea what is SYF certification?

None of those. There's is no \"official\" cut-off point for students accepted under DSA, and it would not be in the official statistics.

Eg, a rather popular mission school's affiliated cut-off point is usually 245, but for those they take in under DSA, they set a cut-off point of 220.

For another popular premier school, the DSa cut-off could simply be 200. And for another specialised school, the DSA cut-off could be 188.

These are all examples. The cut-off for DSA depends on school to set.

Did any of the schools keep your portfolio?
