My answer to this question is this:ok after seeing the hype for the second yr straight I'm interested in asking one burning question and you can take this as sour grapes but hey I've not lost my place in that sch but I just feel it would just be more prudent for me to change my back up choice for phase 2C..
and this is my question- pls enlighten me in what way is that sch better than CHIJ (kellock) or GEPS etc.. there is no proven record abt this highly popular sch.. and seems like if the heat has drawn those 1-2km away from GEPS and CHIJ but to that sch.. it shows it's purely due to the hype created cos of the P of the sch and things said in KP (kiasu parents).. we all know as parent we aim for a certain sch so that at the end of the day our child's PSLE score is guaranteed along with a holistic education in terms of focus in CCA.. as for this sch there is no proven record in academics or sports and we don't know if this sch will offer higher mother tongue and we don't know what CCAs it will offer.. plus there is no guarantee that the P will be around till the pioneer batch completes PSLE... or longer.. I bet MOE is smart enough to pick up the trend and move popular P to new sch if any in future seeing the continued balloting history at this sch for no rhyme or reason. my point it this unsound hype will only show it's true colors when the first batch of students complete PSLE and till then this hype has no value and is just uncalled for. if being 1-2km will still guarantee me a place in sch X than being 1km to \"that sch\", I'd rather move to sch x cos we know the records and achievements so far compared to this sch.
just thinking aloud and no offence to anyone. I just could not justify the hype to our objective of guaranteeing a good future for our kids and pls don't tell me \"I'm not worried abt my child's psle results and I just need to make sure he is happy in his sch\" cos if that's really true then we won't be called kiasu parents.. haha.
If I only had girls, CHIJ would definitely be the 1st choice as the IJ brand of schools is 1 that has a track record of equipping their students with the right attitude to survive in life. The independence, resilience, adaptability of an IJ girl really sets them apart from others. It's the IJ spirit. And I've never met any IJ girl that regrets going to IJ.
As for the other schools, I go by accessibility to me plus feel for the sch. I m not staying at Jln membina side so ZD, RM are all 1-2km for me. That sch is under 1km with direct bus + walking distance. P and VP are only supporting factors. My husband chose the sch without even knowing who they are - and he's still clueless I think. -
Lady Fifi I think I know you leh…
Anyway The heat is so up now I believe many parents are now working on backup plans & Friday will see some changes in applications diverting to the other 2 schools that were quite popular in past years. I felt the same heat of queuing up to buy property few years back
lets just hope our kids will eventually enter the school that is most suitable for them, even if that’s not our initial 1st choice… -
Someone mentioned that GESPS the Principal was from Kwong Hua School, so can put it on par with the APS Principal from Maha Bodhi. Just the end of 1st day we saw 253 against 187 available in APS.
There could be chances some school might escape the chance of balloting if the heat is concentrate in that school. Parents in 1-2 km or 2km may want to monitor closely & perhaps give yourself the 3rd day to do some back-out. I believe the schools if they are considerate enough would call up parents to withdraw them if they do not have a chance to be in balloting situation. -

She has to prove herself in many aspects, not just academic only.
So, the current hype is not been justifiable, yet.
Actually, given the leadership of both P and VP, Alexandra should be considered, turned into a SAP school.
If both P and VP of Alexandra are indeed good -
given their several years of teaching experience, they should have no problem turning Alexandra into a SAP school.
So, will they be able to turn Alexandra around into a SAP school, is one of the key questions.
Because parents who enrol their kids into this school, have the expectation that the standard of this hyped school in future is going to be somewhat similar to Maha Bodhi, or IJ St Nicholas kind of standard, or even better.
And what do these 2 schools have in common ?
SAP school, is common.
Will Alexandra become similar to one if these schools, in future ?
This is a big question mark.
It may, or it may not turn out, to expectations of parents.
the first thing need to be proven : is the leadership of these two key people, before we talk about expecting the pioneering batch to produce stellar PSLE results, in 2020, since there is so much hype generated about this school.
From now (2014) : 6 years down the road, is still quite sometime ahead.
Parents who are unsure about performance of this school -
Is safer to enrol your child into other existing, proven schools.
Because like it or not, parents can't run away from the fact that 6 years down the road, when come to Sec 1 entry, or which Secondary school your child goes to, is dependent upon PSLE results.
Alexandra primary is still very new, very raw.
It takes many, many years of effort, to prove that a school is solid. -
Alexandra pri is very hot this round. if stay with 1km to 2km, highly need to ballot but actually within 1km of Zhangde pri. If ballot for Alexandra pri, zhangde pri may not have vacancy for P2C supplementary (based on history) as Singapore PR would hve taken the place in P2C…Is it better to take same bet as within 1km of Zhangde Pri sure no need to ballot in phase 2C.

If I am you, I would choose zhangde due to proximity and guaranteed place on phase 2c. -
APS is a wild card no doubt but it is new and it os led by a P who can remember the names of all her students. If you have met her, you will be attracted by her charisma and determination. VP looks a very firm and determining educator too.
Together with a team of aspiring teachers and the support from MOE, APS will not disappoint.
In the contrary, schools which have been around for many years have established culture and ‘proven’ track record.
You can choose to fit into the existing mould or help to shape the school. -
