Raffles Girls' Primary

hope won't kena a heart attack on friday!
anyways, to take the heat off this registration thing a bit, for now can i just pretend my child will be attending the school next year and ask a few more questions? :please:
what is your pm session child's daily routine like? what time do they go to bed; what time do they eat lunch; do they shower before or after school; what's the best time for them to do their homework/revision, etc? what about enrichment classes and other personal hobbies/ccas? somehow afternoon sessions feel longer than morning sessions although they're really the same...
i will have to make some adjustments for my other child who will still be in kindergarten next year. may have to switch her to pm session too if older child gets into rgps. all the current afternoon hobbies/lessons will have to be moved to the weekends too.
ps: thanks to daddies and mommies for putting up with us nervous hijackers and for being so generous with your time and information! -
Hi,
In a dilemma here.
Have obtained a place at phase 2b school A. I’m sc under 1km to rgps. Considering as it’s walking distance and easy in future but concerned about few things:
1) with p1&2 in afternoon session, the two sisters will practically spend the whole day apart for 1 year. They are each other’s companion. But I had also checked with one teacher in rgps about school going single session in 2016 (happened to be a sat; no admin staff around). She said that while that is the plan, it would depend on traffic situation when they move back to hillcrest. If traffic is bad, there will be complaints from residents and p1-2 would have to remain in afternoon session. That means possibly 2 years not seeing each other and when dd1 goes to p3, she will be morning session whereas dd2 who will enter p1 will be afternoon (assuming the school cannot go single session). In total, could be 4 years apart. Logistically, it means I or my inlaws have to juggle their logistics.
2) Can I verify if it’s true that rgps Chinese is actually higher level Chinese compared to other schools? Someone told me that the girls start higher level at P1. That is completely scary cos I won’t be able to cope!!
TIA! -

Go single session by 2016. I don't think residents complain will make school change that.
And yes RGPS starts higher Chinese in P1 -

Oh Yes! Even One point difference matters a lot.My point is- if I want affiliation, I would go for CHIJ TPY, St Margaret or Fairfield.
Since their cutoff points for students from the affiliated primary schools are much lower at 200.
Between RGPS and NYPS- I don't think that difference in 8 points make much of a difference.
( haha that's what I say now. Ask me again when my daughter is in P6)
What more when talk about 8 points difference (so huge ! )
When comes to Secondary 1 admission entry -
Just one point difference alone can determine if you able to appeal to a Secondary school, or not.
So, don't under estimate the power of one point difference.
If you are not too far off from the Cut off point entry admission, Secondary school may still take you in, if you try to appeal.
But if your PSLE T-score is more than 2 points away, can drop your appeal.
Because there will be many people who are one point off on the appeal list, ahead of you.
they stand a higher chance than you, if you are more than 2 points off, from the cut off point.
Don't forget
PSLE t-score : all P6 students are ranked in order sequentially one by one, based on T score with minute decimal points, to enter Secondary 1.
Example
To get into CHIJ St Nicholas \"Integrated curriculum program\" from Sec 1 direct express to \"A\" level in that new Junior College located somewhere at the junction of Marymount road on a high level of a golf course that combine (St Nicholas and SCGS girls with Catholic High boys), last year (2013), the cut off point to enter, was 255.
So with one point away (means at 254), and if you are still very keen in this IP program, you may try to appeal.
But if more than 2 points off (means get 252, example) -
CHIJ St Nicholas won't entertain your appeal for \"IP\" program.
3 points off is too far away, for an IP program.
They worry that a child can't cope with the rigor of an IP program.
IP = Integrated program curriculum from Sec 1, bypass O level, go straight directly to A level.
So, you won't need to compete with those girls taking O level exam, because you have already secured a seat for your A level.
Because one point difference matters So much -
That's why you see a lot of parents scrambling to enrol their dd into affliated primary schools like (Nanyang, SCGS, MGS, PLMGS, CHIJ Toa Payoh, CHIJ St Nicholas, St Margaret)
Reason
If they do very well : they can enter Top secondary schools, IP program.
If they don't do well : but still able to meet the minimum cut off point for affliates, they can still do O level track. -
