Let's also remember that these 4 parents who gave up their slots also benefitted 4 other parents who were vying from their withdrawals

      Absolutely!!!!!!!

Yes. Coz reason given was the 2nd child was different sex that y intend to change to co sch

If we can agree that parents make decisions in the best interest of our child(ren) in the given situation, then this sound like a very valid reason to withdraw and re-register, isn't it? Put ourselves in the shoes of this set of parents, wouldn't we make this same decision? Who would hv thought that this last minute decision will bring about a big impact on others?

Applying into popular schools involve taking risks. These parents played within the rules of the game.

I agree that it is indeed heart-pain for those affected.

The 4 probably saw that those staying within 1km do not need to ballot. So they went ahead to withdraw and try going for that one place at ATS, thinking that they are the only ones. Turns out that they were not the only ones and 3 others had the same idea. So why blame them, when this is the exact way by which most of us parents would have played the game, if we were in their shoes. I know I would.

This particular situation underscores the reason why we publish http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/bishan and a http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/p1-registration-2015-overview every year. ATS has balloting at Phase 2C for SC <1km every year. Those applying for ATS but staying beyond 1km should know that they are facing immense odds. They are probably trying their luck, and well prepared to go into Phase 2C(S) with the many other schools in Ang Mo Kio, as outlined by http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1349617#p1349617. It is just unfortunate that the system does not allow them to retry again at Phase 2C.

Thought there is a journalist who read Ksp -

Always asking parents involved balloting to contact her, share their story ?

Would be good if she can write something in Straits Times, address this critical last minute enrolment to MOE officials, to look into this issue, or consider looking into what Chief had suggested.

She should interview those 17 Pushed out Ai Tong parents on their plight, ask MOE to address this issue.
            Because it doesn’t stop here.
Next year and future years ahead, same thing may occur to some other popular schools, besides Ai Tong

Daliesque sorry that you had been balloted out. I’m sure it is not a nice feeling getting into a ballot which is why I pity those who need to ballot. And fair enough as you will definitely take another chance at 2C and now going through the ballot all over again which could have been avoided. Im sure most parents are not spoilt to cry foul but if you knew that the no.32 actually gave up the sacred seat to go fight with you in a ballot. Now that is really frustrating!

                kyps:

Rains, do you think those 28+17 will not blame those 4 for causing this predicament? Easy for us to say let it go when we are not in their shoes.

Agree it is a good idea on cooling measure so anyone who don't even stand a balloting chance can have time to react and not have waited in vain for 2C and having to wait and go through all the stress all over in 2CS.

They probably would. What I was trying to say is that as parents, we are just doing what we can to secure a seat for our kids. And those 4 were doing just that as well.

Given the 17 parents' persistence in wanting to have a shot at those 3 or 4 seats, I have a feeling that they would have done the same thing if they were in the 4 parents' position.

You'd be surprised at how reasonable the parents are. My Cousin's kids got I. To a girls school and was chatting with a family who was bumped out last min - they accepted it gracefully and congratulated my cousin. My cuz wished them all the best and they say it was a risk they knew they were taking. Learn from this couple. Don't bet if you are not a risktAker who can accept set backs gracefully when there is no foul play.

If u are not fated with that school, nothing you can do about it.

                  sharing a real story:
A friend went for balloting at st Nick, left with last 2 place. Everyone was nervous, my friend was the second last ball to be picked. And his twin girls got in; both last 2 places taken by his family. The others who was hoping for the last chance for the last place was so helpless and nothing can be done. If its fated, nothing can stop u from enrolling into.that school.

Am curious how strangers in the school know that these parents already have a confirmed place in another school, unless these parents or staff told those strangers 🤷

No fault of theirs if they choose to register at 4.25pm? They had a choice and of all choice and advantages they had, they had to make the worst possible negative impacting choice that is going to directly cause misery to many? The so called 4 that \"benefitted\" from their withdrawal might not even feel any impact cos they already expecting a ballot and that one withdrawal is just 0.01% assuming instead of 100 balloting, now it is 99; assuming each of them withdrew from different school. But their 1 last minute act caused a greater nightmare for many.

Just like retrenchment; 1 top-paying exec Kenna axed may not feel upset considering the redundancy package awaiting plus he/she already accumulated much wealth to be ok without a job for the next few months or even years but 1 low or middle income Kenna axed may be their rice bowl and already struggling with the daily survival. So same axe but who will your heart go out to? And will you still sympathize with the person holding the axe just because that person has the trump card and holds an advantage edge over the others? Just because you \"hold the axe\", you should have exercised due thoughts and not just axe for your own selfishness consideration.
Bottomline. They kept to the rules. The parents who tried their luck out of 1km were also betting. You know how much effort to go through and stress to withdraw and do this last min? It's love for your kids trump any thing else. Plus it's 100% rule abiding even up till 4:29pm. Many of the left over parents would have done the same if they had the same opportunity. Let's not be so spoilt as to cry foul every time things do not go our way.

I donch see any need in keep tweaking the system. KSP, including those outside ksp forum will find new ways in playing the game.
