      rainbobo:
My daughter has attending class at one of the centre of ICR for about three months. And we have three class which was taught by substitute teacher (not from the centre and obviously is a local). I understand that sometimes teacher might get sick or have some emergency issue to take leave, but as customer, can we choose not to sit in for the substitute teacher's lesson? and make up the lesson next time??

I feel that it's a bit unfair for us to use the substitute teacher who is totally new to my kid. And i am sure the cost for hiring a substitute local teacher and a foreign teacher is different (not being discriminate against local teacher).

Any parents here have the same question??
Which level is your kid now? I believe for PRP, TCS, Lil bear they should hv oth classes. You can check with the admin if you can choose to attend other class or wait for the teacher to come back and do make up but definitely will be in another day.
As for local or non local, I believe is up to own preference. The branch my girls attended have local teacher for Lil bear and TCS level. But i do not hv problem with this arrangement and in fact local teacher helps to build up my girl confidence in speaking English. She attended another phonics centre prior to ICR and was put under a foreign teacher, ended up she was quite rejected as she hardly understand what is the teacher teaching. (my girl's English standard is quite poor at that time as we are not English speaking family)
So when i enrol her to ICR and she met a local Chinese teacher, she feel more comfortable. Subsequent level with foreign teacher, she has no problem at all.
To me , most important is whether the teacher is capable in delivering what should be delivered.
      Just my two cents!

        Hi,

Is ICR good? Or Mindchamps or Lorna Whiston? Torn between all the various choices. Any parents with feedbacks on these?

        Thanks.

          hi sunshine8

i was considering between icr and mindchamps n decided to choose mindchamps. the assessment done by mindchamps was more of ascertaining the level that my children can join, not how many letters or words my children can recognise, and definitely not about whether my children can read and write etc. i have both children in the program and they are doing well to date in terms of their confidence level and social skills, i also have seen great improvements in terms of word recognition.

My boy was 5 when he started ICR, a year into the programme, he basically went from not reading at all to reading independently and able to spell most words at first or 2nd try, even long words like jurisdiction or government. I would recommend ICR if you are keen to start your child on reading. We attend the one at Tampines CPF building which I think the teachers there are a great bunch.

My son is attending ICR at AMK branch…He enjoys his class so much. He is in k1 now and just started 2mths back. I can see improvement in him. He likes the teacher there which plays an impt role in encouraging him. Reali happy to see my son enjoying the class.

ICR Junction 10 was taken over from a Chinese tuition centre, they keep the old furniture from the previous tenant which are meant for higher primary students. When I go for parent briefing at the centre, I saw small kids kneeing on the chair. How can they not taking any action after 1 year of the take over. This may cause incident and poor blood circulation.

It’s indeed unacceptable lor… for 1.5hrs… the kids must be having sore knees… 😞

I registered at ICR Harbourfront few months ago and was asked to select a teacher. Then when my son start lessons, I was informed the teacher selected is transferred and that was a new teacher replacing her. At that point, I was wondering what is the purpose of asking me my preference then…

Anyway, class started…my son loves the class and the teacher but I honestly don’t know how to see if there is improvement after the lessons… partly cos when I flip through the book, the things done looks similar to what he do at his daily childcare 😛 Any experienced parents can guide or give tips on how we can see whether the children has learnt anything?

i having problem asking my child to do his homework and thus have withdrawn him from the school to reflect if it is a right course or right age for him to get started in reading. he tends to resist the homework and we are unable to get him motivated enough to do the homework.

do any parents having the same problem like me? my child is 4 yrs when started
