Rgps is not a SAP school right? Why is higher chinese being taught at p1?
Nowadays, need not be SAP schools only then start P1 Higher Chinese.
Depends on how individual school wants to run their Mother tongue curriculum programme. Non SAP schools also can, if their HOD are comfortable, with the idea. And whether P of the school supports the idea too.
What happen is that in most Non SAP schools :
Normally P1 to P4 is normal Chinese.
Come P5, the stronger ones get chosen to do HCL, in P5 and P6.
Tr select the stronger ones.
But in Rgps, we do it the other way round.
We prefer to give all P1 students the same, equal opportunity, to learn HCL.
If child can learn their mother tongue well, consistently, then proceed all the way to P6.
If not, can drop back to Normal Chinese, along the way.
We give you this flexibility.
For parents who target SAP Secondary schools like eg : Nanyang Girls High, Dunman High, etc
They encourage their daughters with conducive home support, to carry on HCL, all the way.
Lately, during P1 enrolment -
our school have increasingly noticed that more and more China parents (either China mother or both parents) had enrolled their daughters, into Rgps. They entered, via p2B or p2C. And once their eldest dd manage to enter, the subsequent younger siblings enrolled under Phase 1 (sibling). -
May I know whats the criteria to continue HCL and when will the sch advise to drop to normal CL? My dd already struggles with Chinese at K2 level (same as me, hahaha), don’t want her to be overly stressed with trying to manage HCL…

Thanks phtthp for the clarification. My gal seems to be doing fine at K2 for chinese though most of the time I know she read her school reader based on memory rather than recognition. And she did not go for any enrichment class for chinese. Hope she can cope.

Yes, Phase 2C balloting tomorrow Wednesday afternoon for SC outside 2 km, 2.30 pmCan witness balloting 6 Aug 230pm at the registration hall.

Just received the confirmation email from the school for P1 next year.
We are SC within one km. Orientation is on 14/11 2:30.

Rgps Phase 2C for 2015 P1 intake (Wed, 6 August 2014)
White ping pong balls are ready, with golden Toto cage.
SC > 2 km : walking into Registration hall now
Total : 71 SC, ballot for 32 vacancies
Balloting Procedure
Start punctually : 2.30 pm, sharp.
1. Verification begin.
Read out aloud the (balloting number, against each individual child's name in full), one by one in sequence, clearly.
Example
Balloting number 1 : child's name A
Balloting number 2 : child's name B
Balloting number 3 : child's name C
... etc, all the way to the last
Balloting number 71 : child's name XXX
As each name is called out and verified in front of all parents seated, the ping pong ball bearing your child's number, is flashed onto an overhead projector on the stage, for all parents to see.
2. Balloting begin.
Invite a staff up the stage, to start balloting.
P1 Officer Rotate / spin the golden cage hard ... until one ball drop out.
The ball with the number that drop out : is flashed onto the overhead projector, for all parents to see.
At the same time, P1 Officer call out aloud name of this child, whose ball has just dropped out of the golden cage.
Another P1 Officer then stick the number plus the child's name called out, onto a white board, one by one.
This white board will store all succesful 32 children balloted in. -
