Just saw this and thought to share my experience with you.

We had a family holiday 2 years back (in Sept) with our girl who just turned 5. During the 2 weeks, we covered Switzerland (Zurich, Lucern and Interlaken), Vienna and Prague.

Direct SQ flight to Zurich and bought the rail pass at the train station which is situated at the airport. You can check out their website first to determine how many days of rail pass you need. Transportation is pretty expensive in Switzerland so be prepared to pay a bit for the passes.

In Lucern, you should check out the Transportation Museum which offers great fun to children. If I remembered correctly, you can get in for free using the rail passes.

I strongly recommended going to Interlaken, which is a lovely town surrounding by the Alps. We went up to Jungfrau which is one of the highest mountain in Switzerland and had great fun playing with snow. Do remember to bring warm clothings.

For me, one of the must eat is macaroons. They have the best I have tasted so far. There are a few shops in Zurich selling them.

From Zurich, we flew by budget air to Vienna. We had visited Salzburg the year before and simply love being in Austria. My girl still has fond memories of the place. We booked the tickets way in advance and paid less than S$50 per person. Next, we took a train to Prague. It is a lovely old town but may not be suitable for your 3 year old as a lot of walking is required. We took another budget air to Bern and changed to a train back to Zurich.

Do check out the various European budget airlines if you are keen to move around. The previous year, we had a hard time driving from Munich to Milan and ended stopping at Salzburg and taking a train instead. You can also take trains but it's much shorter by air.

It was a memorable trip for us and I hope you and your family had great fun too!!!

i say must ie if you want to see the sun at 9pm. I was in Italy in summer enjoying the summer sales(this one is a real die die must go sales) :lol: and enjoyed alfresco dining at 9pm with daylight still good. So whatever crazy shopping I did, I still had time to enjoy fine dining in the later night with sky still bright. No one feels like sleep is anytime near. Then after that I pop over to Switzerland for my scenic tour, shopping not critical here but the scenary is something to die for. It is quite like Singapore in terms of standard of living except it has alot more natural stuff. I was told bollywood loved making their films there, must be great to hide n dodge around the trees there, simply beautiful. Yes travel in summer is light n can buy more stuff back too!!!!! Joys of a shopping queen!

That is the beauty of temperate countries. But during the winter, the sun sets around 3 or 4pm. This is terribly for travelling or sightseeing.

You made me feeling like going to Europe again this Jun!

Expensive in Italy or Switzerland? Italy having summer sales, so you will have a whale of a time shopping!!! The sales are very good, up to 70% and great stuff to lug back. I came back almost like Imelda Marcos.. and a few bags too and DON'T FORGET one or two for MIL!!! It can last you no issues for a while... :lol: *calling buds*

As for Switzerland, it is not really a shopping haven...but a scenic place with memories of nature you would love.

Errr..when you are travelling hor....don't you want to maximise your outing time ah, spend money to travel so far and waste it indoor? hmmm :? Of course I know get cosy is 24 by 7 la.... :lol:

Not sure if it is cheaper but even if it is the same, you get rebate of 18% of the VAT at the airport, which you can take it as a discount.

This high VAT works out well for us.

Actually maybe you can get a Rolex too, again may not be the price but the selection is likely wider than here. Also, if you are a watch lover, then you should really open up your eyes to the variety of beautiful timepieces that originates from this place.
