E3:
Afraid your fear will materialise (based on my experience).I am worried that we end up doing all the coaching and learnng thru guidebooks and assessments. It defeats the purpose of what science should be teaching the kids: a spirit of exploration and a sense of curiosity.
Call me kiasu, but I am worried that an incompetent science teacher will cause me to have to 'work harder' in coaching my dd's science. If a good teacher can inspire her for science, which she is currently still very interested, will make my job easier at home. Haha....
Why I am so particular about science and not other subjects cos science is not something you can practise like math but need to hv analytical minds and apply the concepts learn creatively as questions will vary greatly during PSLE so if don't get a good science teacher who can motivate the kids to retain and apply their knowledge, they will soon forget what they learn, not to mention applying concepts into challenging questions. -
Science needs to grasp the facts really well. that is not all, must know how to apply to questions asked, given in the form of graphs, experiments etc.
Not that easy esp in upper pri level.
My DS is using Science PSLE Revision guide (2nd Edition) by marshall Cavendish. make sure get the 2nd edition β came out only this yr, Popular
bkshop is still selling the 1st edition too!!

the results of the class did not support this fact. Simply becos many pupils are taught Sci by either tutors or parents.

yes, totally agree with you! I coach my DS till P5 last yr. this yr, send him to tuition cos iβm not confident enough to teach P6 syllabus: Energy, interactions -
Tweet,
I happened to glance at the Science guide for Upp Block.
Same titles but really in-depth.
Don't want to think about it until the time comes, but thanks for the tip.
Jennifer,
As a parent, when I see such a pathetic Science textbook, I will have to do something to make sure my son has enough info to sit for exam. We don't send him for any Science tuition (maybe not yet) but on my part, I ask around for titles to boost his interest and compile info with his notes. -

Interesting!
My P3 boy told me the sch teacher taught Plants cannot move. In EPH's lower blocks and the other two guides I am using, these three books claim Plants can move, though not freely or from place to place. This morning before sending him off, I again told him to accept the fact although he does not agree. Last night, we were revising chapter 6 of EPH's diversity and again this qn came up and he still chose to stand by his grounds. You know how he ans me when I said if he is presented with such qn, he will get it wrong? His reply: it is the qn's model ans that are wrong! :stupid:
This boy is so different from his elder boy who has the wisdom to accept the fact that he cannot change.
Maybe the answer should be: yes, but they cannot move by themselves, they need external stimuli or help to move.
i think \"growing\" is not the same as \"moving\". just my thought...
