Your sentiments are exactly the same as my P3 boy. He'd be very happy to know he has a supporterCan plants move?
Maybe the answer should be: yes, but they cannot move by themselves, they need external stimuli or help to move.
i think \"growing\" is not the same as \"moving\". just my thought...

I was going through the Science book when I saw this.
Living things can move by themselves
a) Animals can move from one place to another. For eg a fish swims, a bird flies.
b) Plants can also move but do not move as fast or as much as animals. The leaves of plants move toward sunlight while their roots grow towards water. Some plants such as mimosa are sensitive to touch and will close its leaves when touched. Venus flytrap closes its leaves to trap insects and flies. -
Jennifer, you have a smart boy there. I plan to teach science with as much 'common sense' as possible, then ensure she has the right key words to express her answers. Just a little background, I used to teach the old syllabus upper Pri science, top end classes. Will try to help if I can
, can also see whether I have become rusty...:-P It's good to learn from one another. All of you should be more aware of the new syllabus so I have much to learn. -
E3,
I bought some Science assessment books (Popular clearance) 2 years back. They are sold off cheaply because they are considered ‘old syllabus’, but actually it’s just classfying into Lower block 3/4. Other than that, facts remain the same.
CA1 today is on Diversity/Systems/Cycles (excluding heredity and matter). Interactions is about magnets. Now waiting for next Monday to find out what the teachers have to say about their performance. -

So that's not much difference between the old and new syllabus?E3,

My elder boy was the last batch using the old textbook.
I think I read somewhere that under systems, the pupils do not learn abt the Solar System under the new syllabus. Is it true? Also Simple Machines? -
my boy is the first batch to use new syllabus. the solar system and simple machines are no longer included.
-
There is this P3 qn on flowering plants whose model ans indicates some flowers do not have petals. We were stumped.
I then found this link http://www.uni.edu/~andersow/separatepetalsb.html -

Thank you for the confirmation.
I wondered then are other topics covered in greater depth or this frees up more time?
I also wondered why take away simple machines? The concepts are very applicable in real lives situation. At least for my elder boy, he now knows how to use some household tools in a more effective way

Hi Tweet,
For Upper Block Science, are the same 5 topics covered but in deeper context ?
Mummies of kids in P5,
Is it true that majority of the topics will be covered in P5 so as to allow more time to revise for PSLE later ? My boy is already complaining of the workload this year, dare not think of anything further.
Now I’m reading books to my gal who is in K2, in the hope that she will develop an interest in reading. -
