[Yishun] Primary Schools

My daughter cannot a place in Chongfu. The ballot was unsuccessful. Can anyone let me know which school should I enroll? Huamin or North View? Both are within 1Km.

Unfortunately for those who are unsuccessful in their balloting in Northland & ChongFu, chances of having to go thru another balloting is high if their choice is Huamin or North View as there are few places left.
Don't forget that these two schools are near to many new BTOs and many new residents also trying to register their kids after failing to secure a place in Northland & ChongFu.

Dear parents living in Yishun. My hubby n I are very lost right now. Our son did not get into Northland during Phase 2C. We do not know which school to enrol him into during phase 2C supplement. Xishan, Ahmad Ibrahim, Peiying or Huamin? Huamin only has 25 places left n we are 2km from the school. Would you all have any comments on these schools? Thanks!

Luckily didnβt joined the crowd in registering at Northland & Chongfu during phase 2C.
Some kiasu parents will eventually end up having to send their children to a far away not so popular school that MOE selected for their kid. -
Those who were unsuccessful in Northland must be staying within 1km of Northland. Hence, they will be more than 1km of Northview and Huamin. My DD will be competing with 36 unsuccessful applicants from Chongfu. Correct me if Iβm wrong. I just hope there is no more balloting. It is too stressful.

Hi, those staying in the new estates near Yishun park are within 1km from Northland, Huamin & Northview. I thought those who got balloted out from Chongfu will be nearer to Yishun or Xishan instead⦠Good luck to all the mummies who are in phase2cs.

Some thoughts...
I believe, as parents, we have the responsibility of guiding our child and not just rely on 'Best/Branded' school avail to teach/guide.
I pulled out of Chongfu the year before just before 2C closes in 2 hours and got one of the last 3 vacancies at Yishun Primary (two other SC mummies from Chongfu arrived shortly after i did... can still remember) Yishun Primary not \"branded\" but i am pleased with the school; some worksheets does prove to be challenging too.
My neighbour's kid was with Chong Fu and commented \"unless you are willing to spend hours going through the worksheets they allocate, not much guidance - all left to parents to figure out...\" he said while gesturing to estimated height of a 1.5l coke bottle as 'practice worksheets' given... I can relate to that as both his wife and him are FTWP too (PS: Not to say Chongfu is not good but perhaps not so suitable for FTWP?). His son graduated and went on to a 'normal' secondary school - not 'super' secondary school. A friend's daughter got into Cedar through DSA (PSLE 227), struggled and parents were even called to Principal's office to discuss her results, the poor girl got into depression... (thank God for church support).
Guess, morale of above story is even 'branded' schools will also have okay results students and neighbourhood schools can produce top scorers too. Some kids are just late bloomers perhaps.
Two years back, i was so upset with myself for not being diligent enough to take up PV and secure a space at Chongfu for my son [<1km and SC status, i would have a confirmed seat - i saw Phase 2B results list on the board (as i went to withdraw) even after admitting a PR PV, there were still 2 seats left in Phase 2B but no more take up as all SC PVs were allocated already...]. I gave myself a mental kick and thought i should have given my son the \"Best\".
But what is the \"Best\"?
To DS, if hub/i sit down and guide him, he's most happy and learns best and fast. We are FTWP. To him, the time i spent with him even on spelling/ting xie/learning timetable is fun and precious (even though i am very fierce).
He is doing well and happy. I got a pleasant surprise when a cert of \"Top 25% Edusave Merit Bursary\" arrived in my post box in Dec. Though not qualified to enjoy this, I am very happy.
I somehow felt embarassed in the past whenever my colleagues asked me which primary school my son attends and then gave me a surprised and like \"huh?\" look (like why didn't you put in more effort for PV, join clans, get church recommendation, etc). But guess what -- few of them barely know Chongfu too (gasp?!) when i try to tell them my story... they are the Catholic High, ACS, MGS league type lah... get it?
But i no longer feel this way as i think the best for my son is my love and time.
Thought i would share this with all the parents that would face the nerve wrecking Phase 2C option later this year - hope you'd fret not and make a good decision for your child. Whichever school your child is admitted, we, as parents, still have to guide our little darling. Character, perserverance, diligence starts at home and the school helps us guide further - NOT the other way round.
God Bless 2015!
*PS: I must confess i am still kiasu lah (otherwise, how i end up here right? heheheh...), i did sign my son up at a rather known math tuition class. Can't understand this one myself sometimes so i outsource. -
Hi, Dino-Craze. I am thinking of registering my son for Yishun Primary this year. Glad to hear that your son is doing well in there. Now I have more confidence in this school as I keep thinking and deciding between Northland and Yishun. Northland I will in phase 2C (most likely need to ballot within 1km) while Yishun I will be in phase 2A2 (previously graduated from Peixin which merged with Yishun). After seeing your post I guess I will just go for Yishun which saves me the stress of balloting.
