I just want to vent alittle. My kid managed to get into Punggol View Pri, but seems like the school’s internal admin/management also have their little bit of hiccup! On ballot day, they said they will inform by post asap on ballot results, even for those unsuccessful, but until today, I have received nothing from the sch. As I didn’t go to witness the ballot, I had to call the sch today again to check, just to make sure my kid indeed was successful in ballot.
Gosh, what if she was unsuccessful in the ballot? Shouldn’t the sch inform immediately so as to prepare the parent for 2C Supp. phrase? If I had been unsuccessful, wouldn’t I have nearly missed the 2C Supp. when I receive no mail confirmation, and if I hasn’t called to check!
Perhaps a more established sch would have been less ‘messy’ in their admin/management works? -

Yeah, for something so important and yet they haven’t post out the letters nor do they call! They can’t take for granted that all parents can attend ballot!
Thus I’m getting worried to entrust my kid in that sch next year! -

Not only Mee Toh, I believe there are other school teachers who will be like the one you mentioned. There are a few black sheep in the industry but it doesn't mean all teachers don't teach. Some really teach but the children don't grasp it. These children would have to rely on external support.In popular sch, teachers are under more pressure, to deliver more as parents expect more and school principal expect more. My son is in MTS
and I could feel the tension/pressure, they were already start on 1B activity book in May and final exam in beginning of July!
However, I doubt the teachers there are really motivated, but rather under pressure to rush through teaching the curriculum. Let me also

If you want to enrol in such popular sch, you have to really prepare your child well, make sure he/she really have a solid background, don't except teachers to teach coz teacher will expect your children TO KNOW. Many times, my son form teacher was absent. I don't know if she is on course or on MC. My son will just tell me teacher not here today, today silent reading... 2 weeks later... teacher not here again... sick... I called the form teacher thrice on different occassions, but she never returned my call.. 3rd time was a more severe case and she called me back (Son classmate's threw his glasses and lens broke).
Some schools that I know of, their teachers are very committed, they will not hesitant to give parents their HP no so parents can contact teachers at any time. The recent Eng test, 1/4 of the class failed, form teacher said: test upon 40 marks, those above 35 marks, gd job those failed you know what you should do. My son quoted what teacher told the class, and I thought: what could the failures do? Isnt what the teacher should do to help the failures? I think parents not only should pray hard their children can get into gd sch they should also pray hard their children can get a gd and responsible teacher.
My friend's dd is in Mee Toh. There was 1 year that her dd was so unlucky to get teachers who was frequently absent from school. The relief teachers don't teach but told the children to do silent reading. The planning of teachers who are away should be planned with a backup schedule of which teacher will relief the class and what relief teacher is suppose to teach. Is there communication breakdown among the staff in the school? I'm not sure about this but that year, my friend's dd did so badly. -
I m really not sure of this new generation of teachers teaching our young! In my times in pri & sec sch, I find I have come across committed teachers. And in my sec sch, I have a principal who’s rooted strongly in Chinese values, and stern yet motherly. Most of teachers must have been on par with her as many are long-serving staffs.
Nowadays, not sure if the teachers go into the profession because it pays well, as we r short of teachers, and they choose it because of its ‘iron-rice-bowl’ nature? But then again, how to screen teachers who may have the passion and heart to teach? -

anyone to spare the Chinese Textbook 1A and 1B? My son is going Horizon next year. The Chinese textbooks used by the older two siblings, have turned to ‘kiam chai’ (salted vegie). -
no use as Chinese will change in next yr P1. So all will use new textbook.

My small girl also going to Horizon next yr so I every yr need to buy the Chinese textbook as I confirm with their Chinese teacher that next yr p2 wont be using the new syllabus, which I felt rather stupid if the moe feel is gd y dun change for all levels , haiz…make ppl waste money in buying it.

Haiz... wat to do... just receive the package from Horizon in my letter box ytd... the booklist purposely put the word \"NEW\" besides the new syllabus Chinese Textbooks.
