How to prepare for a theory exam? Any advise? Thanks!
1. Get a teacher.
2. Do past years papers. -

If your DS has not completed his regular theory book, he should finish the book first before starting on the papers. -
Ok will start to check out music bookshops once DS is done with his theory book.

A bit busy and not convenient to do any recording last week, but I managed to record these few grade 5 pieces these few days. Teaching notes will follow shortly a few days later.
Grade 5 2015-2016 A1 Prelude in C Minor by J.S. Bach
I personally think this is one of the hardest pieces in the new grade 5 syllabus. Awkward to play and requires very good musicianship. Rather spiritual and meditative to listen to.

Grade 5 2015-2016 A5 Minuet in C Minor by Josef Haydn
Good for students with strong fingers and flairs for drama. Also suitable for students with smaller hands as some of the problematic notes can be rearranged quite safely.

Grade 5 2015-2016 C4 Sweet Mister Jelly Roll by Valerie Capers
Fun little ragtime that will appeal to everyone, especially to those who played Don't Shoot The Pianist for their gradde 4. If this has been included in the book, pretty much everyone is going to play this.

Kee Kor,
1) go through at least 3-4 Past year Specimen Paper
2) memorize alll italian terms
3) summarise each chapter in theory book
4) memorize key signatures
The theory exams are always repeating the similar questions so your child will get a hang of the types of questions that will be given. The teacher should know better and guide you both, ya. -

You should ask your piano teacher how many set of past year papers are required. Normally the teacher would required like 3 sets of latest past year papers which means 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Btw, have your piano teacher register the theory exam for your child? The closing date is over already. It was on 15 August and the exam is on 25/10/2014.
Normally theory exam result shall released within 6-8 weeks after exam date. -

Most of the music school should sell theory past year papers. Just call any one that is nearest to your house and check if they have before you go there.
Alternatively you can ask your piano teacher to buy for you.
