Sorry, can't help on the JR pass as we did not DIY. 15/16 yrs ago not so easy to DIY as Internet was less prevalent....or I shd say I was less savvy then :roll:Dd said no-no for Mt Aso, for fear it erupts. We are not really that found of castles.
May I ask where did you buy your JR pass if you have DIY the trip?
Thank you. -
Thanks Dnls_mum for sharing.

The JR Pass can be purchased at the JTB travel office here. You must buy it in Singapore, it not sold in Japan.
Mt Aso is nice actually, and there is a kiddy train call Aso-Boy that run through Mt Aso. You can google and there are also youtube video on this train. Do not worry about eruption all active volcanoes in japan are being monitored, if there are any possible eruption, it will be close or with enough time to escape.
Is only earthquake where is still impossible to give early sufficient time warning ! We actually rented a car at Mt Aso and drove around for a day or 2.
Beppu is a worth visiting all the 8 hells, they are all different. They have a comprehensive ticket that cover all the 8 hells I believe is about Y2,000. -
Hi aloyboy
Thank you for sharing.
So you purchased your JR pass at JTB travel office here? I did last time and found that the exchange rate quoted was rather unattractive.
Am still thinking whether to go Beppu or another place as I will travel from Hakata.
Comments about Yama Hello were not too good and if I were to visit, I plan to visit only 2 hells (one is crimson and another is bluish). Am wondering after visiting the 2 hells, where else I can go in Beppu. I canβt be taking a 2hr train to Beppu, visit the 2 hells and then take 2hr train back to Hakata.
What other places did you visit during your stay in Kyushu?
I will be making a day trip to Nagasaki to visit the Peace Park, Spectacle Bridge, Chinatown and Mt Inasa Ropeway.
Did you try the above?
Thanks. -

NTA publised their rate on their website, you can compare with JTB. Due to time and location I just go JTB Ion Orchard to get. The Yen exhange rate now is probability the cheapest ever in history ... so is very very cheap liaoz !! Imagine when I was living there almost 10 years ago it was almost 100 yen to $1.60, now only $1.20
Hakata - Nagasaki Peace park, Glover Garden area, Chinatown
Fukuoka - shopping, around town
Isahaya - Huis Ten Bosh
Kumamoto - Kumamoto Castle
Aso / Beppu - Beppu Onsen, Hell Tour, Yufuin, Mt Aso
We move around and stay in different hotels in these locations.
We travel with 2 young kids, so we normally take our own sweet time.
Down south kyushu are all the beaches mainly, which we did not visit. After Kyushu we went on to Hiroshima, Shikoku and Osaka. -
Hello
Any idea how long it takes to clear the immigration at Narita Airport? My flight touches down around 5.15pm and unsure if I can catch a train that departs around 7pm.
Thank you. -
Anybody did 14 days DIY using the 14D JR pass?
Can share your itinerary?
Thanks. -
Hi hi
We will be heading to Tokyo in December. Apart from visiting Disneyland and Mt Fuji tour, anyone can recommend any other places that we should not missed ?
It's the 2nd time for us in Tokyo but we mostly stayed around Ginza for shopping only.
This time we hope to explore more interesting places
Thank you ! -
