No idea about that group. My son’s class has a parents’ whatsapp grp but after the initial enthusiasm, it has become inactive.

I am concern about HCI Chinese standard too. Any remedial classes for the weaker students?

I heard there are remedial classes for Chinese. Though the standard of Chinese in hci is quite high, I believe most Ip schools also take Higher Chinese? I think first of most the kids must not hate Chinese, and once they diligently pay attention in class and do their homework, it should be okay.

I won't say it's easy if your child is weak in CL but is manageable. My son's weakest subject is CL, but he's doing ok in HCI without tuition. I would even say his CL compos now are better than in p6.


Here are my views:

HCI doesn't teach Chinese in the usual way - they use the MOE textbook for HCL, but they only go through selected chapters (at least for this year's S1).

But they have plenty of opportunities for boys to be exposed to Chinese - Chinese drama (to learn chinese proverbs), Chinese debates (current affairs), twice-weekly (i think) reading of LHZB, various chinese storybooks issued for reading through out the year, communal singing of chinese songs, etc etc. Eg, during CNY, they were taught the meanings of various \"dui4 lian2\". The CL teachers are helpful and approachable (and responsive!) too.

If you don't hate chinese, i would say HCI is a great place to be exposed to Chinese culture and to pick up the language.

Yes! And I believe by the end of 6 years, your ds Chinese will improve!
