Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
Hi,
Pls share about the differences between future school and normal school!
Future schools don’t have white board teaching system? -
Is Phrase 2A2 applicable here, if parent studied in the school before for less than 6 years and got the report book?
If fail to secure 2A2 and have to ballot, means have to do PV to secure 2B? -
I heard from some parents that children need to pass some kind of test to get in primary 1. But my school didn't. Is this true? If it is, which schools do that? HELP? I don't know! :scratchhead: :slapshead:

You frighten yourself unnecessarily, causing yourself to go into panic mode.I heard from some parents that children need to pass some kind of test to get in primary 1. But my school didn't. Is this true?
If it is, which schools do that?
HELP? I don't know! :scratchhead: :slapshead:
Please don't do that.
There is no test for K2 kindergarten kids, during P1 orientation.
But, after admission into P1 next year (2015 January) -
Towards the end of P1 Term 1, subject Tr would have identified which child inside the whole class need to attend Learning Support program for Maths, and English. (If any)
This is in accordance to MOE policy, make sure every P1 pupil is equipped with basic reading literacy, and with basic arithmetic.

Dear Parents,
Would like to hear some views from other parents please.
Next year would be my daughter’s turn for P1 registration. Im an ex IJ Toa payoh girl and would hence fall under phase 2A1 cos ive also joined alumni. This would also mean 90% of acceptance. The problem is we live in the east and travelling to toa payoh would mean about 1 hour to and fro. By school bus would take 1.5hrs to and fro.
Now our next alternative is St Anthony’s Conossian Convent which is much nearer to where we live and each day would probably take 30 mins to and fro.
We would fall under phase 2C if we decide on this school. Historical results showed that applicants within 1km have all been accepted.
Our dilemma now is st anthony’s conossian is not as good school as IJ Toa Payoh and it’s so wasted to give up a precious seat there. However, the travelling time is really bothering us.
I wonder how would other parents decide? Any other factors we should consider?
Help help -
Rent out your current house, collect rental income, then in turn rent another house much closer to IJ Toa Payoh primary, to save both travelling time and cheaper school bus fares, for the next 6 years.
A lot of parents are using this method and solution.
Also better confirm now, with the school -
Whether got any Sch bus go to your house located in the east, to CHIJ Toa payoh primary, daily Mon to Fri ?
Do not assume that there is.
Because Some primary schools do not provide school bus, from those staying in the east, to the north.
Example
Marymount Convent primary -
There is No school bus for those staying in the east like Bedok, to Marymount.
So parents staying in the east, cannot apply to Marymount, even if Marymount got vacancies in Phase 2C, unless parents can drive their dd to school, everyday, to and Fro, can resolve their own transport problem issue.
Standard wise -
CHIJ Toa Payoh (also have affliated Secondary school) English is higher standard than St Anthony Cannosian primary.
If you are considering withdraw from Phase 2A, to apply for St Anthony Canossian primary, must be careful.
Make sure that you can get into the school under phase 2C.
Otherwise if fail in balloting and later you run back to IJ Toa Payoh, crying & begging for the Principal to take you back, P won’t take you back anymore.
Because once you withdraw from a school, P will not take your child back, anymore. P will ask you, "Why did you choose to withdraw, in the first case " ? Then, how are you going to answer her ?
So, you must be aware of the consequences, before you withdraw, to even take the plunge to take the high risk, in Phase 2C. Don’t just say, let me try my luck, blindly. -
Meadows:
The top students in SAC is probably better than the average students in CHIJ TP, and certainly better than the weaker students. Think about that.
Our dilemma now is st anthony's conossian is not as good school as IJ Toa Payoh and it's so wasted to give up a precious seat there. However, the travelling time is really bothering us. -
Actually, St Anthony Cannosian primary is affliated to her Secondary school.
Secondary school is just side by side, next to the primary school

-
Yes, also heard something similar, about St Anthony Cannosian Secondary school.
As for St Anthony Cannosian primary school, my friend complained about her dd P5 Science Tr.
If I am in your shoes, I will stick back to CHIJ Toa Payoh
