Hi. Can we share which assessment books we give our IP children to practice? I noted that their syllabus varied but there are always common topics. Let me start. For English editing, DS finished this book.

Do they have time for additional practice? My daughter just does what the school gives, nothing more. She gets worksheets and past papers prepared by the school for Maths and Science for self-revision and that seems to be sufficient for practice. For other subjects, the practice they do in school seems to be sufficient. I haven't bought any assessment books for her at all, and I'm fairly sure she will complain loud and long if I do!

No choice. If no time, then must make time. For English editing, the teacher told us to get assessment books for additional practice so we got that book last semester. This semester they won't be tested on English Editing so I didn't get DS any English Editing book anymore.

DS has enough Maths worksheets from school so I won't get him anymore assessment books.

For other subjects, based on what I observed last semester, he will only get 1-2 past year papers. I think it is not enough. DS needs more practices to get used to answering method.

There are past year papers available in the library but no answer sheets. Does RGS provide answers to the past year papers in the library?

I don't think my daughter has been to look at the past year papers yet! I don't know what RGS provides. I know the Math practice stuff she is given comes with answers, but not sure about the Sciences. And I doubt there are answer sheets for anything else.

So far, I've not heard that teachers tell the girls to get additional assessments to do for any of the subjects, though I'm sure there are girls who do extra or have tutors who tell them what to get. Or maybe my daughter just 'forgets' to mention it at home! She's a quick learner and seems to be able to manage with what they do in class and what the teachers hand out. I think (hope) she will tell me if she thinks she needs more practice.

              Hi Lexis,

I bought that too but DS hasn't touched it too. Haha.

Did you buy any Science/Geography/History assessment books?

only science… there’s a GLM series on Bio/ Phy/ chem (3 separate books) which I bought. He seems to be able to understand most of it (those topics already covered in school).

Thank you, Lexis. Coincidentally I picked up GLM Physics yesterday :hi5: The boys haven't started on Chemistry yet so I don't know what they will be studying.

I need to amend what I said. My daughter (Yr 3) says that she was asked to buy some Maths and Physics O level 10-yr-series for practice and she considers those equivalent to assessment books. She says that for other subjects, homework from teachers is enough. She also says that the school past papers are now digitised and available for printing, so she doesn’t need to go to the library for them. She doesn’t know if they come with answers (which proves that she hasn’t printed any out yet!).

RGS standard is so high. I don’t think there is a need to have extra assessment books to practise since the school is already providing all the materials.
