ask parents in a while to events. sports day is best. but please not all event. it not fair for the kidz that there parents cant be there.

Actually, we should give the school due credits for its willingness to involve and invite parents for school events. Year after year, as the school population increases, it may eventually be a logistical nightmare to invite parents for certain events. By then, it will be too late for you to request the school to invite parents for school events. So, at this moment, when the school is willing and able to invite parents, why not? I believe the school is also experimenting with its crowd management, too, with the organisation of every event and testing its limits.

As for parents, if you cannot make it to the event, explain your situation to your child and emphasise that your love for him/her is in no way inferior to others just because you can't attend a particular event. It's a matter of managing your child's expectation.

      My two cents.

        Well said.

I appreciate the school's efforts to engage parents.

          Hello,

I am Mrs Tan. My hubby cannot communicate in English well. He was trying to say that it is good to have some events for parents to come to but not lots in a year. He is working in construction and I am working in restaurant, we cannot come for every event. My gal feels sad that we cant come. We explain the reason to her but it not easy for a 7 year old to understand, right?
The school is fantastic and do lots to get parents involved. My hubby is only saying dont make it lots, 1 or 2 events a year is good. othewise only the same same parents turn up and it not nice for other kidz to not see there parent. it easy to say managing your childs expectation, but if you are 7 year old and see other mummies and daddies but not yours, how would you feel?

How do you propose which events the school open for parents? Not all parents are available on that particular date and if I can't make it for a certain event, I will definitely look forward to the next available event when I am available.

Actually, how does your suggestion help solve the problem? :? By limiting the number of times your child sees other parents? Won't it be unfair to other parents who want to attend or be more involved in their children's school activities?

              CLASS MONITOR

i not sure if you r parent or not of west spring. but the school has lots events for parents to come. I saying that the school can have 1-2 big events a year such as sports day. parents dont need to take so much leave to be there. this mean that parents put in leave with their company. but so lots of events, verri difficult to always attend event. 1-2 big events can be easier for all parents to come. but every month verri difficult. i works in restaurant and hubby construction, so cant ccome for all event. i only suggest 1-2 big events a year, sport day and end of year. this ways all can try to come. but iif more more events, we like many parents cant come.

                Dear LFC4ever and Suehanah,

We’re so happy to hear that you and your children enjoyed yourselves at our recent Sports Day! Many other parents did so as well! :imcool: :hi5:

                :thankyou:
Your words of affirmation, as well as those from many other parents, have certainly made the day for all of us in the West Spring family! :grphug:

It’s always so heartening to see so many of our parents making time to be with their children and us at school events. Good job! Keep it up! Your presence and support mean a lot to your children and us. :boogie:

We’ll continue to look into continuing with this tradition as best as we can when the school expands, with the additional 8th class opened up for P1s next year due to an increase in the demand for our school. Next year, we’ll welcome another 240 West Springers and their parents to our family.

We look forward to West Spring being an even more vibrant school, with the addition of our new family members. :celebrate:

                  Hi all,

                  Just my thoughts:

My hubby & I are also working parents who work shifts. We have 2 children in 2 different schools and thus have twice the number of events and field trips to attend.

How we do it is this: we both take turns to attend the events.

So far this year, we have missed 3 West Spring events.

It’s true we have to be responsible workers but above all we should be responsible towards our children too.

West Spring is the only school I know of that actually open their doors widely to parents and I commend the staff of West Spring for this.

The school has also given us the dates of all their events months ahead, and I believe this gives us ample time to plan our leave.

                  Just my two cents worth.

                  Cheers

we dont get lots holidays from company. if we put leave in it means not so many day left to do holiday with family.

i cant take 1 hour leave, it mean half day go very fast.
i work in restaurant, lunch times very busy. hubby work in construction in tampines area.

we r resposible to our child that reason we work to provide.

i only ask the school not lots of eevents for parents. otherwize the kidz feel sad there parents cant make it.

My gal says shes enjoys the sports day lots. But please keeps the events to a limit for parentss to atend. Manys of us haves to works and cant take time of. My gal gets very sad when we are not there. Goods for involving parents but please make events mainly for kids only. bcause many kids will get sad that there parents cant make it. its ok for parents not work but pleases considers all.

                      Dear Tanpeter,

We’re so happy to hear that your child enjoyed herself at our recent Sports Day! :rahrah:

We believe that we’d responded to the matter brought up by you some months ago with regard to our school’s practice in embracing parents in as many of our school activities as possible.

The invitations to the school events are made by us and at the end of the day, parents make the decision on whether they’re able to support their children and the school in these events. They’re not compulsory. So, this gives parents the flexibility in making the decision.

Indeed, this dilemma which you face will also be a good teachable moment for your child to understand that due to your work commitments, you’ll not be able to be present for most of the school events. This will help to build the character of your child and provide you with a good opportunity to explain to her that even though you may not be able to be present all the time for school events, you do show your care and love for her in many other ways. :hugs: 😄

                        Hi Mrs Tan,

I’m also a working mummy same as u, I only have 14 days of annual leaves. I had missed quite a lot of events too and I know is up to individual to decide whether to attend or not as all the events is not compulsory. So far no problem for my son, he is ok when we explained nicely to him why we can’t attend.
I understand how u feel when seeing your girl feel upset.
I think is not very nice to request the school to limit the events for parents to attend just because we as a working parents cannot attend. I choose not to interfere all the events planned by the school. As for me, I just select a few big events like Chinese new year celebration and sports day to attend.
