A little consolation, Janet. Exams is a form of assessment so it's ok to make mistakes but what's most important is to learn from the mistakes and not commit it again. Tell your boy not to give up but persevere on. You are right not to reprimand him further. I believe he has tried his best.
My son's CA1 results are poor...he came back yesterday and cried in the room. Now waiting to see the papers to see what went wrong. He told me the papers were tough. I didn't scream at him because I feel he's under lots of pressure.
I was a little upset with my dd's math paper because there were errors in the paper. It was in the midst of the exams when a student realised there were printing errors in the options for TWO questions in the MCQ. Two option (2) were printed, no option (3). (It's a MS Word auto-number alignment problem, not 'smart' enough to order the number properly.)
My girl was too engrossed working out the answers that she didn't realise the printing error. When the teacher informed the class, she had already done that question and written down the wrong option number which was reflecting the correct answer value. Although she changed the erroneous questions, she didn't change the option she wrote down in the bracket to reflect the right option. I knew she has got the value of the answer correct because she came back to share that question with me after math exam. However, during that time she didn't realise she did not change the option number from (2) to (3).
Thankfully, the answer for the other problematic MCQ question was not affected by the changes to the options as the correct answer was not either of the changed options.
Firstly, I was upset because why didn't the setter or vetters realise the errors before printing. Secondly, shouldn't the teacher inform the kids BEFORE the start of the exams? Given the fact that the kids were working their minds out on the questions, it would be so distracting to ask them to make changes to exam questions in the midst of the exam.
On the other hand, I told my daughter that it's also her fault not to check more carefully. What to do? She has to learn the hard way. She claimed that she had checked thoroughly after her exams. I guess she was more focused on the actual value of her answer when she checked her work and not on the option that she had written down. Sigh...no choice....so many things to take note of during exams. In this case, cannot even give her the benefit of doubt cos her teacher did ask them to make the changes to the questions. :roll: -

I agree with you. Any typo errors should be informed before the start of any exam and written on the board if necessary.
Son cried because he was afraid I would cane him. I told him to learn from his mistakes, not to make them again and work harder for SA1. There's a long way to go and caning him will only make him more fearful. He's already facing stress in school from his teachers, why make life more pressuring? I think he really has to practice more in the area on Models and Heuristics.

Among the MA worksheets returned to us after the MA CA1, I found extremely careless mistakes and beat his palm with a ruler for each mistake. Since the Sc paper ended, I made him work on Fabian Ng’s worksheets. Really cannot take it easy and let go. I also discovered his mental calculations were not as fast as it used to be. Wonder if the brain is revealing its toil due to not used to morning session.
This Mar hols is going to be loaded with revision and MA practices.
The teacher-parent meeting is next week. Dun think I will speak to the FT. She’s already having pregnancy issues, no need to rely on her to buck up my child’s performance. -

Did you ask him for general performance of class? Rounded up is 80 so 10% is 8 marks. If he gets 90, overall is just 1 more mark. Can be earned back from SAs.
Yes, I don't plan to relax too much too, will still keep revision going during hols as it's still first half of the year. Teacher had already pre-empted them on holiday work. Taking a little break from the academics this week cos got to work on piano theory exam. -

I just bought the assessment book, but have not started her on it.
Got bundled set of Maths books (Li Fanglan) for P1 from Popular....heuristics, 6-in-1 and something on mental sums. Determined not to make the same mistake for younger one.

Parent-teacher meeting next Friday...don't dare to face his teachers...wondering who is the one who sat for CA :oops:
My son's FT also pregnant, but don't think it's fair to ask her to buck up on my son's studies. -

No doubt, it's good to catch up on first term's work but no matter what, I believe our kids had tried their best for the exam. The trick is to find a balance. It's good to bring up your concerns with your FTs next week. I believe a good plan can be thought out. Stay positive.

May not work out because they will put you at the end of the queue if the subject teachers are also FTs of other classes. You will not be given priority. I only got to meet FT and Chinese teacher last year. Math teacher had a long queue of her own students from her form class. We decided to give it a miss. Some parents may be offended if you cut queue.Hi
