Catholics children get into Phase 2B, since you are staying in Tampines the normal rule applies, if there is a balloting for 2B, you will not be out as you stay more then 2Km.

I enroll my DD last year for pri 1 and I live in tampines, under Phase2C, We got in without any balloting, you have to monitor the situation, went on the last day of registration at about 1545hrs to register, to ensure that there will not be any balloting. At the end of the Phase 2C excersice there were 5 Vacancy left over for 2C supp.
Well the school hours are from 0750hrs till 1320hrs. Children as to be in sch by 0735Hrs. i will be able to answer your questions, as my DD is studying in IJ KC.

Is IJ Katong the first choice for yr DD? How do you find the school so far in term of academic and discipline? Does your DD like the school?

I am staying in Bedok Reservoir which is actually not too far away from IJ Katong(10mins) drive but definitely more than 2km from IJ. Prefer a Catholics school for my DD as we are Catholics.

Actually I am quite clueless how does the registration work under different phases. Care to share. Many thanks! Btw is St Nicholas Secondary affliated to IJ Katong?

Actually the registration system is quite simple. This is your first child?


If first child and you want to put her in a Catholic School, you come under 2B for Catholics, same phase for all Catholic schools across Singapore.

However, if she’s your first child and you do not wish to put her in a Catholic school, she goes under 2C for any other schools which you have no connection with.

But if you want to put her back at the primary school/s where you or your hubby attended when you were kids, then she goes under 2A2.

CHIJ St Nics Secondary is only affiliated to CHIJ St Nics Primary, not IJ Katong.

BTW, just kaypo a bit more. Do you have a second or third child? Girl or Boy?

Why do I ask? Well, if you have a second child who is a boy, then you have to think carefully where you intend to send him when the time comes. If you opt for a co-ed school now, you have one less headache when it comes the the boy's turn, but if you opt for IJ Katong, then you will have to go through the same headache again when it is time for you to register your boy.

That said, there are only 2 co-ed Catholic primary schools in Singapore and bit far for you too if you were to consider them.

On the other hand, there's St Stephen's in the East for your boy if you have one.

Oops, I think I have spoken too much without even knowing if you have a boy or a girl after this first girl! :oops:

Sorry, made a mistake in my earlier post. :oops: :oops: There are actually 3 co-ed Catholic Primary Schools in Singapore :

De La Salle School in CCK
St Anthony's Primary School in Bukit Batok
Holy Innocents' Primary School in Hougang

All seem a bit too far for you since you are Bedok Reservoir.

Like you said, a good choice would be to send them to different Catholic Schools.

Not sure about the academic standard of St Stephen's as I do not reside in that area. About the only thing I know about St Stephen's is that it is affiliated to SJI and St Patricks. Perhaps you would like to read about it in the St Stephen's thread?

Maris Stella is a good school though again distance wise is a bit far for you. You are definitely out of 2km and since it is quite a popular school, you might have to ballot to get in since the parent volunteers also come under 2B. Bear in mind that Maris Stella is a SAP school though, so both your kids would be doing different levels of Chinese as IJ Katong does not offer Higher Chinese to students till P5 and P6, while Maris Stella uses Higher Chinese text book from P1.

Yes, you are right, your girl comes under 2B for Catholics, does not matter which IJ you go to, but bear in mind the distance rule if there is balloting. 2B is also for PVs, so you are actually fighting for a place with them.

No, you do not need any letter from your Parish Priest in order to register for 2B. Can you imagine every K2 student asking the poor Parish Priest for a letter? :? Just the child's baptism cert will suffice. Remember it is the child that must be Catholic with a baptism cert, not the baptism cert of the parents even if the parents are Catholics.

Alternatively, you may register her for yours or your husband's former school under 2A2, that is assuming that your husband went to a co-ed school, that is. A report book/testimonial from the former school should be good enough as proof.

My hub is fm boys school and mysef neighbourhood sch so I can register my gal under phase 2B only. And saw most IJ has ballot. Haiz…
