I just used my girl last year prelim result to X .72. The actual was +25 of her prelim. :evil:33mama:
for my DS1 who took PSLE in 2011. I used * .72 for his prelim and in the end his actual was +14 of his prelim. :rahrah: but that was based on the old \"ruler\"...
heard that last year the results or the ruler was measured differently. It would be good to invite 2013 PSLE parents/student to share their estimation based on prelim results and actual psle results in order to have a rough gauge for us 2014 psle parents.
u mean u used prelim say 80% like 320/400 (total of 4 subjects) then convert to over 300 which is 240 but the PSLE Tscore came out to be 240+25=265 -

it would be good that each individual school can release their Prelim vs PSLE Tscore of previous year to give the current parents a way to estimate, every school paper is different so it would be difficult to come with a common multiplier that suit all schs and whole range of marks.....Perhaps you can look at the schools previous year's top kid.
If, say, last year's kid was 270 and this year's top kid is around 90% average, then using 0.75 is OK.
If this year's top class has several kids or whole class getting average >90%, then maybe 0.72 or 0.73 (mostly 260-ish) coz most schools will not have many kids getting >270 if the national highest is around 280.
NO magic multiplier....just estimate what T-score your school's top kid will get and use the multiplier.
i would say if prelim marks
- is below 240(over 300), one can add 10-20+ marks,
- between 240+ to 250+ can add 10+ marks
- around 260+ can add 5 marks or no change
- more than 270+ maybe need to -5 to -10 marks
that's only my rough estimation...... -

= rough guide of T-score. Compared with her actual PSLE t-score, different by 25 points.
if a student get 80 marks for every subject. 4 subjects will be 320 x 0.72 = 230.4 only. Frankly, I personally feel if a child can get average 80 marks, his / her result is consider very good. So getting t-score 230 is consider low to me. -

Based on the 2013 top scores above, it was 270Ā±5
If your school's 2014 top prelim is at 90%, then use 0.75
If >90%, eg, 92%, then use lower, say 0.73~74
If <90%, eg, 88%, then use 0.76~77
It's just an estimate. -

Normally if a student gets all A stars, but only 91 for all subjects, what will be his T-score? 262?

If the school provides mean and standard deviation for each subject, you can use the formula to work out the t-score. I reckon psle score should be about +/- 10.

Prelims are usually much harder...so maybe the child is good.
Girls tend to be mature earlier. But anything can happen in the few weeks before PSLE.
