EL tutor comes to my place for 1-1…my kids are in different levels, so it is not possible to teach both at the same time.

If teaching both kids of same level, the kids have different capabilities. One will be deprived somehow.

While searching for science tutor for daughter, I was given 2 choices by agency…one is a full time child psychologist but giving tuition part time, while the other is a full time tutor.

        Dear All parents,

Have you engage any of the trainers listed in this Website. Seek your advice for tutors that major for Lower Pri on English and Math.

Please share on this chat or if you can email me your recommendation at [email protected].

        Thanks

I agree n I just cant wait for my kids to complete their education so that I don't need to rely on tutors becos they are not only costly but a source of stress to me too.

can't wait for them to finish secondary education...once they go to poly or JC, it's up to them to manage THEMSELVES. financially and mentally stressed.

            Why not group tuition?
I think tuition centers' notes are structured.
I don't like assessment books because have to comb through numerous books. I prefer one consolidated set of Science notes. So that was my main purpose for sending to tuition

The only problem is the sequence of topic covered in tuition center may not be the same as school. So one to one tuition would solve that problem. But back to the problem of combing through numerous books

If child is reliant on tuition all along, not necessarily can self manage by JC. I saw some advertisements for JC tuition too 🤷

And theoretically, A level is even more important than psle

I agree but for some, tuition is inevitable.

And yes, A levels is definitely more important than PSLE.

I think tuition centers' notes are structured.

@sleepy: I think it depends and vary from student to student, and their level of competency for the subject. Some might benefit better from a 1-1 tuition or small group tuition (maybe max. 3 in a group).

I feel that students who are academically weaker are better suited for small group or 1-1 teaching. What's more important is to get a patient and understanding teacher who can boost the child's self-esteem and help the child to be unafraid of learning.

@Janet: Need to weigh the pros and cons. The FT CP is good in the sense that she is trained to teach a child who may be academically weaker. Impt that she knows the syllabus and understands the child's learning style. The con is that her fees will be much higher than the normal tutor rates.

As for the FT tutor, she will be able to give your child the undivided attention. Even tho she may not be specially trained, what's impt is that she is patient and attentive to the child's strengths and weaknesses.

Have a chat with both tutors and hopefully u can get a sense as to which person will be able to help your dd best.

Boosting self esteem and helping an academically weak child be more confident is very important. For Math, start with level 1 rather than challenging ones. If she can do the questions by herself, that is a battle won.

I came across a compilation listing of recommended top tutors in singapore (not by agency) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Singapor ... 58?fref=ts and am wondering if anyone has tried engaging such \"premium\" tutors before? Is it worth the $$$?

i don’t know how a tutor can be defined as ‘premium’.

i only believe in patient tutors who are able to motivate my kids and work on their weak areas.
