Heard that a particular agent got sued by a maid employer cos of false info in biodata (I think was underaged).
Don't know what happened in the end.

In those days…maid had to pay their own ticket if they don’t want to work. They will do their best to please the employer because they want to keep their job.


New maids are already taught to just ask for transfer if they are not happy. They will just annoy you, break your things, show black face until you send them back to agency…or just run away…

They feel they have the right to lie to us and use us to get into Singapore and then just choose employer from here.

in those days, maids were not given so much liberty to choose employers...now the law is on their side. even if they decide to go home, employers have to pay air ticket.

I had to keep my corelle bowls/plates when I had maids...at the rate they vent frustrations, no amount of money can replace chipped items.
my tolerance level then was very high because I didn't want to be affected by the maid. when black face method doesn't work, they resort to other methods :mad:

I was reading about the situation in Taiwan.

Do you know that in Taiwan: if a maid gives problem (eg rude, breaks stuff etc) the employer may give her a written warning. After 3 such warnings, the employer may bring the case up to the authorities (can't remember the name) in order to terminate her employment and send her home. Maid has to go home. No transfer.

my friend told me no such thing as transfer in hong kong...screw up and off they go. our MOM protects maids more than their own citizens...what a joke.

I agreed that they are employer that abuse maid but so far in Singapore not really that many. Somemore they will get heavy punishment by SIN law. If maid hurt or kill employer, they will sentence them as mental stress and just give the maid with light sentence. So if employer with such poor quailty maid, keep yelling to transfer, do all sort of funny things....etc....won't the employer have mental stress too. Employer still need to handle kids, elderly, maid and work so employer is even more mental stress than the maid. Whose going to help employer............

i even heard of an employer who was so pissed off with her maid that she bought a ferry ticket and sent maid off to batam...let her figure her own way home.

training a maid is a torture...literally hold her hands and teach her to do work. after 7 months or so when the maid is independent to be able to cook and do housework, they think their 'wings' are strong enough to fly :mad:

some employers are way too much in the way they abuse...why land in the newspapers for the wrong reason? when the maids add soap powder or something disgusting in the food, they are let off...if they kill the employer, their countries will argue maids are emotionally distressed and escape gallows with diminished responsibility.

Totally agree. Shd limit to one transfer and then off you go. Employers change maid 3 times get barred. Maids can change employers unlimited.

Singapore employers have to train newbies to cook, wash, do housework etc etc…then the maids springboard to Taiwan, hong kong or Dubai for $700-$800 pay claiming to be ‘experienced’ when actually they could have just worked for a few months. when I had to rely on maids then, I had to close both eyes even though I am a SAHM, otherwise how to survive everyday?

i am more afraid of being poisoned than have my face on ST for abusing them.

My first maid ex UAE, can clean and speak perfect English, taught her how to cook and even gave her 2 off days as soon as she arrived in SG, gave her salary even though still paying off loan, gave bonus for good work after 2 month. Then hubbie and I went holiday for 4 days leaving 2 old kids with her ( both sec) then!!! Got internatinal call from DD saying maid is LOST?

Finally they find her chit chatting to another maid and want to bring big box of stuff to our house?! I told my daughter no ! Don’t let her.
Anyway after I rtn she mumble excuse… I let go
Then 2 weeks later want to talk abt contract not right ? Have to be paid USD450
some maid sue employer, agent etc etc… I panicked and call agent…
Long story short, this maid was very hard to please, show black face and I was so stressed during my 3rd pregnancy that I hid in my room so I don’t have to deal with her.
Oh, she broke so many expensive plates bought in Europe and wedding present…
I went and bought IKEA set!
Now she is gone and I have less competent helper but she at least is less demanding.
