During P1 school’s orientation day, (which would probably be at the end of the year) I suppose you may take a look at the canteen and the price list? Else, $2 would be more than enough for 1 recess.

        Hi parents,

Next year, my boy is going to Primary 1 . I wonder how much pocket money I should give him on recess time. Any idea?
I like to go by need, even for my kids who are in sec school. Check the canteen prices and give him enough to get a decent snack/meal but not so much that he has lots to spend on unnecessary items. Also tell him what you prefer him to avoid. It will be a good time to start a saving habit as well by getting him to set aside something every day.

            Hm…let me think.

It was $2 for p1. I gave coins so that he was able to count and if he forgot to take the change, it was just a few cents.

Also $2 emergency money in his bag.

I gave my kids $1 for recess in p1 and 2. Enough for food with a little change (can make phone calls), no drinks.

I give about $1.50 and it’s sufficient for fried rice etc.

When my kids were in Lower Primary (esp Primary 1), I always pack snack (bread) + water. They don’t buy food from the canteen becos there is not enuf time n they are still too young to manage buying food on their own.

Enough to eat the most expensive item in the canteen + a "die die" must save amount of 20 cents. And emergency money of $2 in case we forget to give pocket money.
