      Hi,

Anyone know of a good violin teacher to recommend? I am looking for one to come to my place (Clementi) to coach my 5 year old. Any idea what is the normal rate (fees) like?

        Hi,

I am looking for a violin teacher for my son(7 years old). I live in Jurong, if it is not too far, I can travel to teacher’s place.

        Highly appreciated your recommendation.

          Hi,

If you are still looking for a violin teacher, I can recommend my dd’s. She stays in Choa Chu Kang Central. Her name is Ms Meah and contact is 90128424.

Tell her that you got her contact from Mrs Koh.

          All the best!

            Hi,

Can I know what is the minimum age for the kid to learn violin as most of school recommended age is 7 years. Maybe the reason is due to the strength required for them to hold the violin.

My dd started her violin group lesson at 4 in her kindergarten. I know a lot of kids started at 5 or 6.

Yes. I think most musical school only accept around 6 years old.

I would say 5 yo for most music instruments since both my kids started violin/piano at 5. 🙂

I think violin is a lot harder to pick up than the piano for many kids. For children with above average musical ability they can start at 7 or 6+, as opposed to piano where they can start at 5.

Violin is more difficult to produce a nice sound without the basic techniques ( correct finger positions, pressure and speed of the bow, etc…) when compared to piano ( just hit the keys ). This may be the reason why some of the music school set the minimum age at 6 or 7. But I really see no harm to start a bit early if the kids are musically inclined, I saw a lot of kids start @ 5 and some even @ 4.

                        Hi Monster Mummy,

Actually I shared in suzuki violin thread on this before. My kids' teacher's youngest student was a 2 year old. My girl started at 3 yr 4 mth while my son at 5 yr old. So, what you need is a teacher who has experience in teaching young kids. Some music schools such as http://www.mandevillemusic.com/Admin-require.htm takes in students at 2.5 years old.
