      dear all,

not too sure is this the right place to post this question, (if not, Chef please help to remove it, thank you)

Q : anyone knows whether is the formal Lee Kuo Chuan => the new Kuo Chuan Presbyterian?

understand that Lee Kuo Chuan merged with Presbyterian Primary and then ...???

looking forward to all advise and thanking all in advance.
Please see posts in this http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=410&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=lee+kuo+chuan&start=30. A fellow forummer confirmed with MOE that Lee Kuo Chuan had closed down.

Kuo Chuan Presbyterian is not a merger of Lee Kuo Chuan and Presbyterian, but merger of Kuo Chuan Girls' School and Presbyterian Boys' School to become a co-ed school.

how about personally do you think st gariel's or kcp ?

St Gabriel good meh? Personally, I think don't think so - not when you already have a choice of Ai Tong and KCP. When looking for a primary school for my children, a strong foundation in Chinese is a must for me. I think Ai Tong and KCP have a higher chance of providing that environment than St Gabriels.

        Dear,
        Just needed an opinion.
My child would be joining KCP in 2011 as P1.
        We are of indian origin.
Though in kindergarten my child does learn mandarin, i hv still not sent her to any enrichment classes to learn mandarin.
So my question is:- IF I START SENDING HER TO AN ENRICHMENT CLASS / TUITION FOR MANDARIN as i want her to take Mandarin as a second language - As an indian with both parents NOT speaking mandarin will it be easy for my child to cope?

Any indian parents on this forum have faced this issue with there child?

We are quite interested in she learning madarin also because of the recent changes taht MOE has been discussing, thks to the mistake taht was admitted by minister mentor.

Hi, I'm a newer here. I will move to Bishan next year. my 2 sons are born in 07 and 09. our aim is catholic high primary ,since within 1km. but friends said it's very difficult to be a PV and even more difficult to perform

              PV projects. :?
we are not good at any creative parts that school needs, only can do is like warden,librarian.. :stupid:

Also know Ai Tong is easier for PV than CHS, but our is 1km-2km. just afraid no balloting for 1km-2km at that time.

We don’t have so much time to do PV, if CHS not accept me PV, is it better to apply Ai Tong or just stick to principle and beg him/her to accept me ?
Or find grassroot help? Actually I ‘m too sure about this one, somebody can help to explain ?

                Sadove,

Its true dat CHS dun need pv for wardens, libriarians n etc. For their projects, besides volunteering your time, u also need to pay from your own pocket for it. U can call up the sch to check what kind of services they requires since it varies fm year to year, they will require u to submit a proposal and will call u if selected. Otherwise, u juz wait for balloting in phase 2c.

For aitong, u still can do pv if u stay out of 1km but they dun promise u a place, since usualy phase 2b are all taken up by ppl staying within 1km. Same to phase 2c, yearly those staying within 1km are subjected to ballotg so u dun stand a choice for balloting.

Good idea begging the principal or grassroot leaders, but i think they will not bend the rules juz for you. There are many others who are in the same boat as you, all moving close to CHS, to fulfill their dreams. Not getting into these 2 branded school doesnt mean your sons cant excel or as parents will loose face 😢 , other neighbrhood school are also worth looking around. 😄

                  Penza:
                  …

I live next door (30m) to CHS for 10 years and applied for the school for my son. I asked for PV but no reply. Went for 2C and was not 'lucky' enough to get son selected in. Now I have to send son to school further away that requires school bus. $$$ flyaway instead of for enrichment courses.

Yes there is something really wrong with the system BUT for now we cant do anything about it.

                  Note that this school
                  1. Has a lot of old boys who send their kids back here (even if they live in Bukit Timah) so the places left in 2B/2C becomes very limited. See morning traffic jams for confirmation.
                  …
Its so sad that you stay the place for 10 years and yet unable to get into the school. Maybe those above certain year should be considered for 2B.

I know it maybe to late to say anything now, for PV, the school door is opened everyday, why call them when you can actually take a walk to the school general office and ask for info, find key personnels to talk to especially you stay so near.
                  Shera:
                  …
Over here I already got 2 sets of parents whom stay far away from CH yet had long decided to put their children into this school since their fathers used to be the students. To them, no need PV yet can get into a school of their choice with least effort.
Do not agree the point on \"LEAST EFFORT\", do not forget, during the days when their father time to study, it isn't easy to get in, especially those got into the school from Sec 1 based on PSLE results, they are those top 8% or 10% of their cohort's PSLE results, its the father's long ago effort that brings the son to the school. If you understands chinese, it is \"前人种树,后人纳凉‘.
                  spoon72:
yes i do believe that the system needs to be adjusted so that it will be equal P1 admission chances for those staying within 1 Km , PVs and \"Old Boys\" from CHS .
1km without PV is 2C, PV is 2B (1 earlier than 2C), Old boys who did not join alumni is 2A2 (1 earlier than 2B) and Old boys who join alumni is 2A1 (1 earlier than 2A2). How is it possible to be together? Bring 1km from 2C to 2A1 or bring old boys to 2B / 2C?

Like some said, 1km can be bought by $$$. PV still need to put in 40 hrs effort. Old boys, I have mentioned above.

To be honest, I think some schools if not most school, old boys contribute in a way no less than PVs, especially those old boys who are still passionate about their school and still help out almost regularly when needed. In fact, I found this whole scheme of PV hypocritical, only for the purpose or need for parents wanted their kids to go to that school, serve the 40 hours, get into the school and disappear even from day 1 of P1.

So please calm down emotion before putting in comments.

Can I check here, my husband was from CHS (pri and secondary)…he has misplaced his report book…can he use his PSLE cert as proof that he was from CHS?

He did not join the alumni, so he is under 2A2? What are the chances of getting CHS under 2A2?

                    Thanks

So long as the PSLE cert says that he was from CHS, it is acceptable as proof.

So far for all schools in Singapore, all 2A2 registrants were accepted. So it's 100% confirmed your son will get a place.
