Saw my nick being mentioned here, so I thought I'd clarify once & for all
..even parents like Joyfulhands who don't even know there is a test until it's over..but end up kena :rotflmao:
:spank:
What for?? :siao:
I don't deny I'm bochap to a certain extent, for certain subjects, at certain periods of time. Having said that, I admit that I don't know there is a term 3 Sci test, I don't know when is the test, I don't know what's the format and so on. I also didn't bother to find out.. haha! To me it was merely 5% and DD is doing ok in Sci, so I assessed that the overall impact is not great.
After all what is more important to me, is not what happens in the test, but how she reacts to what happened.
And I'm glad she tried her best despite no preparation, did fine, and came home to tell me. Now I know she can handle mini surprised tests! I'm a happy mom
Happy holidays everyone!
P/s: oh, forgot to say that I don't feel in any way being laughed at, or bashed, or spanked or .. that is, I don't feel offended by any posts in this thread. -

I don't think I have laughed at any parents in any of my posts. Just find that when things happen to you, you lose your cool and want others to agree that the fault lies with other parties solely. So what if we know that the fault lies with the school/teachers or even the parents? We know hard for the school/teachers to change, but as parents, we can change our approach. Also, I was just sharing that the school had indeed shared with us on the tested topic (be it half a yr ago or just yesterday). I did not label you as bo chap. It was a general statement that I made when I used \"you\" in the earlier post. Many parents took pictures of the slides too and the school did indicate that the slides are online.
Since you have just shared your bad experience with the school and teachers,Scary:
Must state this. I am not siding the school in this case!
Actually the topic was quite clear if we had attended the briefing at the beginning of yr. The slides are in Mconline and the followings are stated:
Anyway, nothing to hide in this case as the info is in the website.
I really find u very contradicting, when this is an obvious case of fault which lies in the school/teachers,
I am sad that instead of comforting us, who are the victims,
we are being

for not paying attention in the briefing which was more than 6months ago & infer topics for test?!!...
& got labelled as bo chap & only have ourselves to be blamed?!?
& i mentioned before, what about those parents who did not attend briefing??
so they also huo gai huh??
& me, i left the briefing early, due to work also..
so u trying to tell us, school has such lousy communication that we parents MUST attend and MUST pay undue attention in order to infer topics for test, & CANNOT leave early???
As for paying attention, not for me to comment but up to parents to decide how important the briefing is for them to remember the details. Just like us telling our kids, \"XXX is important, please pay attention\" if we feel XXX is important. I don't think that there is anything wrong to share with others that they have to take note when the school auto communicate with the parents like the briefing. This can caution other P1/P2 parents or the upper prim parents if they have never attended the school briefings. I believe my post here did wake some up that such communications by school heads is important when you think you can leave everything to your child or the teachers cos they did not attend the briefing, cos the teachers can be bo chap in finding out correct info for you, cos some kids can be switched off even when teachers tell them the details, etc.
As for ours and some other classes, maybe we were more fortunate as we were told to refer to briefing slides. So we referred. As for parents who missed the briefing, it's up to them to view the importance of it and checked with teachers and parents what they have missed. I can't comment on their behalf. Anyway, you did mention that you were cautioned that it was a different topic, but you did not further confirm right? Umm.. . maybe you or embel could have posted the doubts here. The parents can't possibly share everything that happens in school here unless there are queries and topics that will interest others.
Because I know that the school has communication problems and there are bo chap teachers, I have to place importance on certain things. I shared my part so other parents can take note if they want. Of course, what I deemed as important may not be important to some cos our kids have different characters. I thought you would have known long ago about the communication problems, about the bo chap attitude, etc since P1?
As for discipline, my boy actually quite ok but I know there are many boys who still have problems doing work at home. At least, I can leave him alone at home and go to work, get him to go to coffee shops to buy his own lunch (and for me too at times!), get him to go to his enrichments himself. Many gave me the :yikes: look when I told them this. As we have no helper and external help, I also choose to look at certain things only, better ๆพๆ and train early. -

Leaving it entirely to the teachers may work for some but to me it is taking a risk not worth taking, because ultimately we are responsible for our own kids. The teachers have 40 kids to handle and they are other admin work too besides teaching.
Some teachers started using ClassDojo plarform to communicate with parents. I think this is great but it is only effective if the teachers are diligent to update it weekly. -
in my opinion, parents cannot afford to leave everything to the teachers who have 40+ kids in a class. it is too big a risk to think that the teachers will make sure everyone understands. schools tend to test students more than what is taught in class. if parents do not step in to ensure their kids are ready for exams, nobody else will.

Hi Janet,
Havenโt seen you for a long time. Hope everything is ok for you and your 2 kids. Do you have more freedom now since your boy is in secondary and school hours are longer? -
Scary:
I have freedom when both stay back after school on Friday...son for CCA while daughter has remedial. Have to monitor his behavior now that he is in secondary school...he is very busy either with class or common tests. Otherwise I am doing well. Your son will be in p4 next year?Hi Janet,

I can sense that your boy is ๆไบ and independent. I'm looking forward to the days my DD can do the same, yet I can't help & still there's a lingering worry for her safety when she venture out alone, as she's a girl. I guess I'll have to learn, albeit slowly, from the Frozen song: Let it go.. let it go..
