Chamonix. Thanks for the thread. The GEP program run by MOE is really tough. No way my ds can fit in such program. This makes me re-think. What in the world am I doing in the other thread? :?

By the way, pm you on some \"no. pattern\" questions that I have.

I do find the GEP program tough too. Perhaps a little too tough for the kids that parental direct involvement are, erm, sometimes required. But on the whole, it's a good learning experience for those kids who like challenges. From your description, your ds certainly exhibits traits of one who will thrive in such challenging learning.

Whether a kid is gifted or otherwise, that's beyond anybody's control. What I admire most are the learning attitudes present in Vanilla Cake and Lizawa's ds. Hopefully my kids can be as motivated, hardworking and disciplined in their studies. And now I'm onto the next level of kiasu - been reading on the Upper Primary Science and P5/6 Math threads. The amount of learning they have is really mind-boggling. Oops, digressing again. Sorry

In my opinion, preparing your child to be selected for GEP is not advisable.

In order to maintain his/her GEP status, the child has to achieve an average overall score of 70% for his subjects. Individual subject has to be at least 70% for Math, Science and Social Studies, 65% for English and 50% for Chinese.

However, more than 90% of the GEP students are able to go to their school of choice through DSA.

Pardon me for my ignorance, is 70% very difficult to achieve in primary school now? Is my expectation too high? I thought if it is a GEPPER, their average score should be at least 80%+. And GEPPER English at 65% can still be a GEPPER, I will be concerned.

The children do not follow main stream syllabus i.e. subject textbooks are optional. They follow programmes from GEB, although they have to take the same PSLE papers.
