            Hi Parents,

I want suggestion/idea from P6 kid's parents regarding this matter. My friend's son got selected to NUS through DSA 2014 and he just sit his PSLE. He has done all subject well and we didnt analyse much about his answers and just discussed about few questions which discussed in this forum.
Now we have to take the decision on accepting NUS offer by this 24th. But son dreaming of getting in to RI. So that we may need to wait till we get the PSLE results. only our worry is, in any case if he couldnt get above RI cut off marks, then we already lost NUS offer and need to think about other school.which may depress to son.
Is there any parents came across this situation or if anyone can give me any suggestion or idea will be a great help.
            Thanks

Oh well, Why did he apply NUS in the first place if his dream is for RI. Many have failed getting a CO frm NUS and ur friends son was accepted ...his standard must be rather good. Perhaps good enuff for RI too.
If I were him and with high standards I wouldn't go for DSA and just wait for the results then apply my dream school. Yes, its going to be a risk he has to take if he decide not to accept the CO as we dnt know how the results will be. Ive seen top students fm top schools in the 270 range expecting results close to that but surprisingly they received lower but enuff to get to top schools,so what Im saying is even tho u may think u did very well, we do not know what the markers are looking for. Similarly Ive seen students in the 250 range getting high or mid 260s.
So if he is kiasu then take the CO. 😄

Agree with moonee, we've seen real life surprises for consistent performer. One expect to get 25+ - 26+ but ended up in the 23+ range. Another that is alot more extreme as ended up in normal (acad). It shocked the parents that they clamped up. Having a PSLE which most find it easy (in kids' eyes but tricky in parents' post analysis) is like a wild card.... we don't know what is the outcome.

In any case, it depends on one's \"risk\" appetite, how the child feels about CO school vs dream school. I asked ds \"what if\" his tscore ended up much higher and he can qualify for a \"much better\" school or eg IP, will he still want to accept the CO? He said yes as they will post him to the top class in his dream school.

I believe this boy may have DSA RI and NUSH but only get CO from NUSH. If this boy's interest is not only in Math & Science, is a diligent learner, had a very good Prelims results, a risk taker, then my suggestion will be, wait for T -score.

                Hi,
Thanks for the reply. he took NUS and RI DSAs and he coudnt get into RI as he is not a GEP student. the reason he take DSA, in case he cant do well in final exam due to any reason, still he safe.
He used to score 100 in maths from P4 and after the final exam when other students say its easy he said its not that much easy as others said and he mentioned most questions tricky.
Those questions and answers discussed in this forum he got correct answers and i believe he did math for 100. In Science he believe he will get the chance to loose 1 mark, so science also in safer side. and English also he did well , only our concern is MT and HMT.
In MT, he referring compre question bit tough and other questions he did well.
As most students referring all papers easy, we have no idea how this t-score system going to affect his performance. He is from a top school in north west area and he is one of the top three student from top most class in that school.
If we not accept this NUS offer, do we eligible to get into NUS through COP? or will it be a negative feedback when we apply with COP?
                Thanks

This will have to be a learning experience for him. After looking at the pros and cons of each decision, he will just have to decide, and also commit himself to not beating himself up with regrets or getting into the \"if only I had...\" downward spiral. In many things in life, we make the best decisions we can based on the info we have at hand, take some risks, and live with the outcome. We can't have it all ways.

He has to make a decision and stick with it. Either take the NUSH offer and forget about other schools, or reject it and take his chances, knowing that NUSH will be out. There are many other schools in Singapore. My daughter also did not a take up a CO (she wasn’t that keen on the school but got persuaded to to try - complicated story), and just waited for her PSLE results. We told her that if she didn’t get into her first choice school, she would just have to take what she was given, and she accepted that.

                        Hi.
You are correct. This is how we preparing to advise him. and we doing that so far. If he not accepting the NUSH Dsa offer, that means he cant get into NUS through his T-score? will it be a negative feedback?
Also if he achieve RI or NUSH COP, he is automatically get in as per his preference? Or is there any other factor after achieved required T-score also?
