That’s 1 of the reasons why our Govt has to ‘help’ us keep our CPF till we are 65 🤪 and not let these men splurge on their immoral activities.

RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]
I understand from some students, some teachers seldom use Math and Science textbooks, students were given notes and they revise their tests/exam using their school notes and notes taken during the lessons.

To add to the above, NYGH students use iPad in their learning journey.

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask but anyone know on the difference in culture between NGHS and RGS? I assume some parents here have gone through some thought process before ending here but what made you choose NGHS vs RGS ? Is distance also a factor? One parent told me not to let distance hinder your child if it is a really good school like NGHS or RGS. Any parents can give some advice ? Greatly appreciate as dd likes both school.
Since selection of schools for 2018 is over, I presume you are considering for 2019 and beyond.
I would advise your girl to attend the open house for both schools to have a feel of the environment and a feel of how the school students react to visitors during Q&A while they lead the school tour.
Other factors to consider when selecting the school:-
1) School starts time and travelling time (NYGH starts at 8.15am, so for some parents/students, this is a plus point)
2) CCA, does the school has the CCA your girl is interested in, is the school strong in that particular CCA, what are the opportunities your girl has if she joins that CCA in that school. How does the school select the students for their CCA? For example, thru audition (ie dance, choir) or trials (sports). For example, if your girl is not very strong in sports but still wish to join, will the school provide such opportunity.
3) If the student is weak in coping in her study, either due to increased number of subjects or CCA commitment, how does the school support them.
4) Uniform - some girls do not like sleeveless top and some do not like pinafore style
5) Special program/Scholarship by MOE, if your girl is keen to be challenged, you can apply for some MOE program/scholarship (check MOE website)-
RGS offers RSP (Regional Studies Program) - interested? Ask the Raffles girls during the open house visit
NYGH offers BSP (Bicultural Studies Programme) and AEP (Art Elective Program) interested. Ask NY girls during the open house visit
6) Boarding School experience, NYGH Sec 2s students have BSE - Boarding School Experience
7) Leadership oppprtunities, for girls who are keen in becoming a leader in the school, can check with the school students what are the available opportunities
School overseas exchange program, what choices each school offers
9) What’s the criteria to promote to their affiliated JCs (RJC/HCI). RGS uses GPA system (best score is 4) while NYGH uses MSG system (best score is 1)
10) Racial diversity - RGS is more racially diverse, NYGH is predominately Chinese
11) Currently NYGH has one structured IP class - girls take ‘O’ levels to obtain a ‘O’ level cert, proceeding to HCI will depend on their ‘O’ level results
(need to check during open house if this will continue in the future),
Both schools offer school based program which is difficult to compare, best to check with the respective schools during open house and clarify whatever doubts you have. Both schools have their strengths. Even though many people may have perceived NYGH as a ‘Chinese school’, base on my observation, many students communicate in English in their daily conversation. -

After watching this, is challenging to convince Singapore parents to be less academically focused
