Need yr advise

1) Isit advisable to buy e ebooks with txtbk or just txtbk?
2) how many sets of uniforms/PE attires for Sec 1? Roughly hw much? Shanghai uniform a lil out of place, better to get enough sets. Any idea if the vendor wl be in school before 20Dec?
3) Can we use the current calculator, Fx96SGPlus or we need to get new ones?

Hi, here are some of my observations based on my girl's experience.

If I'm not wrong, ebook is only available for Science and Maths? My girl didn't really make use of the Science ebook but she thought the Maths ebook which her friends used (but she didn't buy) was rather useful. The teacher used it quite often. So on days she didn't feel like bringing the textbook, she just took pictures of the pages beforehand

I had 3 sets of uniform and 2 sets of PE attire for her which was sufficient. The extra sets of uniform came in handy in Sec 2 when they go for boarding school and have to do their own laundry. The uniforms and PE attire can be purchased from the school bookshop anytime. Can't remember the cost though.

My girl is still using her primary school calculator with the primary school logo stuck behind.

We are done with the purchase of school textbooks and uniforms early this morning!


There was this plumpish lady who served me at NYGH Popular was very patient as DD2 tried many sets of uniform and PE attires before we agreed on the right size.

She told me that on orientation day, there would be no trying of uniforms as they wouldn’t be able to handle the large crowd. But they do allow exchange.

From the booklist (which I got from the bookstore), I notice the girls are required to buy additional reading materials for HCL like 飞越有晴天、沉睡天使、青春第二课…等等, may I know if these Chinese novels are for pleasure reading at home or used as materials in class?

Please check through your purchases, the boy serving me forgot to pack all the language arts books for me. Not sure if I wanna go back to the bookstore or wait till orientation day.

lee, best to go back to Popular bookstore asap. They’ll forget if u wait till Orientation Day & not acknowledge if lapse too long ago. They handle too many & will forget u. DC bookstore used to be this friendly lady but she can’t help even know us so well, as we BIY a lot of stuff for the sch library, esp if it’s past 3 days according to her as Popular won’t allow in her sch-based bookstore. Hope u get yr LA books.

Thanks Estee for your advice. The boy stacked those items I wanted according to the booklist but luckily, when I reached the cashier, they scanned each book’s barcode before I made payment thus, far those unpacked language arts books I did not pay for them.


I read a previous post that the forummer paid $360, and I was happy that mine only came to $260, so happy till I forgot to check my purchase. Now I notice all the exercise books, test pads, school files etc, all not included!! No wonder so cheap! Err, it’s quite exp actually, I recall I never paid that much when purchasing books and uniforms for DD1 last year (in another IP school).

Ya. I know. No choice leh if they need those books. Only thing u’ll feel all expensive books paid before Sec 1 mostly not used by teachers, then u feel the pinch. Usually, Popular only pack textbooks. We thot we paid a lot, but when we included those writing pads, sch files with logo, etc, it all adds up. More headache for us when we need to buy jackets esp when their classrooms are air-con. Then when term 1 starts, they’ll need to pay for subj printing, etc., CCAs… still counting … to incl more esp when they rep sch for Competition ano set or 2 of Ts with logo… lots more huh. Just hope they adjust well to sec sch once parents support them with all these to start off.

I understand from some students, some teachers seldom use Math and Science textbooks, students were given notes and they revise their tests/exam using their school notes and notes taken during the lessons.

Uniform supplier is Shanghai Uniforms at Ubi. Smallest blouse is 14.5 and skirt is 24. Not sure what this measurement means but my 1.5m tall and 40kg gal then had to take 14.5 and skirt 24. My new Sec 1 gal has to take 15.5 and 28 as she is 1.63m and 45kg. PE tee and short start from size 32, similar to other regular tee and short sizes
