Any advice on Baby/Booster seats in car?

yah, claims are darned expensive.... doesn't it set you wondering how it adds up, when the OMV of a whole brand new mitsubishi is probably now only around 12-15K? 8K would be more than 50% of the car already...smurf:
the Merz claim was $12k while my car claim $8k.
smurf:
Wow :shock:ya, cos the merz metal body very hard and their parts very very expensive. while my car is the tiny mitsubishi...if u see the pictures, you would think my car was in very jia lak condition after that incident, and the Merz nothing happen, not even slight dent.
趁火打劫. -
smurf:
if your child refuse to sit in car seat or booster seat, you can go to Robinsons and buy the seat belt thingy whereby you can ''clip'' the seat belt so that the belt would not rub against your child's neck (cos adult belt tend to the wider and longer). think it's for 5 year old and above.
it costs less than $15.
while this child belt clip will provide some comfort to child using car seat belt without child car seat, it does not guarantee that the child would be probably restraint by the car seat belt in the event of an emergency. -

the merz probably charged you for a new bumber -

if your child is over certain age, or he/she is too big for the child/booster seat and he/she refuse to wear a seat belt because it makes him/her uncomfortable, then this clip is useful.smurf:

atrecord, rules is one thing. The other is to read the instructions on the booster-seat itself. Most will give measurements/recommendations
My 4.5year old son, (slightly > 1.2m), is definitely not tall enough to do away with the seat. Clearance between neck and the belt is not there yet. In fact, he’s still sitting on the seat with the full-back and head support. Again, it also depend on the physique of the kid and the rear car seat, and position of the belt as well.
But never put your kids in the front seat. Smurf’s experience is a wakeup call. And if the "crash" was stronger, the airbag would have been deployed, and the kid’s face/neck may crumbled under the impact -

I do not think my booster seat has any instructions, as it isn't a brand-new one - it was from a friend.atrecord, rules is one thing. The other is to read the instructions on the booster-seat itself. Most will give measurements/recommendations

I'll take a closer look at the position of the belts again though, as you pointed out.
But I must say that I've let them sit in the front seat very often - all belt up of course. -
Note that you should not accept any 2nd hand car seat or booster seat unless you know and trust the original owner very well. This is because once the seat has been involved in an accident, it has done it’s job. It is not safe to use it again after that, even if it looks okay on the surface.
And if kids are too young, they should not be sitting in front, as almost all cars nowadays have air bags in front. That’s why the instructions will always tell you never to use a car seat or booster seat in front if there are front air bags. The air bags can severely injure or kill a baby or young child when inflated during a crash since they are made to an adult’s size and weight. -

hmm... what would happen to a booster seat after an accident? yup, agree that it's actually not good to have kids sit in front if there's an airbag. But I've never really understood the reason behind it. is the impact so strong that it'll knock the kid out? or is it due to suffocation (which I tot should not happen since the airbags are supposed to deflate quickly after inflating)... Any advice on this?
