Oh My Gosh:
I think tuition / enrichment has to suit the kid - so some centres may be good for one kid and not suitable for another. Eg. if the centre does a lot of drilling and give a lot of worksheets, it may be good for the weaker students who needs reinforcement of concepts over and over again. But for the above average kids, they may find this a boring chore and not learning beyond. Is \"The Alternative Story\" good? DS didn't do well for English composition and I am feeling the stress
Or any other good enrichment out there?
By the way mummies, how many marks for P4 is considered good? DS doesn't have any DSA strengths so he has to be relatively good in his grades (which sadly he's not). Above 80%? 85%? Stressed...
Suggest it's best you approach the centre, and maybe even try out a lesson to gauge suitability for your kid. Don't go by hear say.......one man's meat may be another man's poison. And you may even need to put a term of 2 to try out effectiveness. -
for the weaker ones, 1-1 coaching must be interactive or the tutor will be pumping worksheets or assessment books while she just sits there to oversee and mark using the answer sheet attached.
my daughter is still trying to get used to the new compo format. planning to revise her subjects for the month of nov till mid dec…will not be touching on p5. -
P4 to P5 is another jump??? Aiyo… jialat.
How does schools/ teachers decide Foundation versus Standard subjects? Solely based on results? But there are students who are not bad, but they just did not do well in exams. Also, if go into Foundation class, does that mean all subjects will be taken at Foundation level? Cos some subjects may not be as bad as others. -
p2-p3 is a small jump…because of the introduction of science.
p4-5 is a more drastic jump…it’s not just math getting tougher, there will be 4 new topics for science. -

Any centres to recommend? Must be affordable. Another centre - Creative Horizon is closing down this year. But personally, I feel they are more enrichment, not very singapore exam-orientated.
No improvement at mind stretcher since K2 and you still want to count on it.. ???My advice is go look for other options. My gal with them for 1 yr before also no progress and in fact worse so quit.. I look at the way they teach and has no faith. I used to ask my gal after every lesson if she had learnt anything and she just shrugged off. She didn't learn the rules on grammar and techniques on answering compre there..Belle:
I'm sorry. I may have upset you.
My son is still not improving even tuition in Mindstretcher since K2, getting worse in his English compo, hope to find better centre. I can't teach as I scored \"C\" for my PSLE.
So difficult to find a cheap and good centre:(
I agreed I shouldn't stay with them but I can't find a good one with weekend time slots 9-11am near my place and affordable price. But there is one thing I need to be fair to Mindstretcher, my DS is having at 80-85 marks for Paper 2 for the past years, with good foundation of grammer and vocabulary at least. Mindstretcher is the one helping him all this while cos I don't really teach him. But just not composition and comprehension. -
though my daughter is not taking her psle next year, i am still worried how she will cope for p5. her comprehension and compo are still her weak areas.

A pat on the back for all mummies and daddies (not sure if there are daddies on this forum as well). Exams are over and we deserved a short break before the tough gets going again :)!
