Hi,

Can someone share with me your school football cca team? Does the cca require to stay back very frequent per week? Does this football cca require someone to be in pri school team then able to join? If one plays well, can he join?

My DS is good in soccer but his pri school doesn't have cca soccer. He is interested to select sec school having football/soccer as cca.

So I have hoping to get some feedback. Thanks for sharing.

Just to share with you what we did last year. My DS wanted to join Fencing club very much but he doesn't have any prior experience, knowing that the sports CCA has very limited vacancy in SJI, we enrol him to a holiday fencing program. When school started he went to the fencing trial ang thereafter put it as his first choice. He got a spot in fencing and is happily enjoying his school life in SJI.

Soccer might be more competitive if many primary school has it as CCA, hence you might want to consider getting him a coach/send for soccer lesson to brush up his skill to increase his chances of being selected. All the Best to your DS!

Thanks jheng for your kind sharing !! Will send him for training during this long holiday.....
Sorry to intrude in this thread. But I got to forewarned you that having soccer as a CCA got its pros and con.
You must check whether your child is those type which is hyper active & athletic kind of stamina as well as he can sustain those rough tackle and fall.
From what I know from my childhood friend who was in SJI soccer school team. The training schedule is very pack and strengnous. He told me his training can take up about 5-6 days a week and it will be physical strengnous for your boy. And if your boy dun know how to take care of himself, he might suffer tear ligament, kneel cap problem or even fracture shin or leg. My friend have given so much time playing for SJI and he have to suffer ligament tear injury for the rest of his life.
Soccer is more injury prone as compare to rugby as rugby only use more of body contact whereas soccer is more on leg power. We have only 2 legs to walk and that's make us mobile. As the soccer game involve possession of the ball and kicking it with our leg muscle, hence all tackle will fly into the child leg if he in possession or holding the ball.

I too was a eager footballer during my school times and was proach by others boys school which my parent rejected them. To my parents during our time, they were saying playing soccer can make you famous and bring dough to your family esp in our country?
I dun intend to spoilt the soup here. But if playing soccer for leisure, I will definitely recommend to go for it. But to be in it in competitive environment, I would strongly against it as the in competitive environment, the child got to sacrifice lots of time mentally and physically and there will be prone to more leg injuries.
Do you think it's worth it??

There’s delay in the construction project (problem in whole Singapore). The expected date for return to SJI Malcolm Road campus is middle of 2016.

Sorry, not sure. Only a possibility. Here's the extract from FAQ handout given to us during Principal dialogue session few months ago.
