Your advice on P1 registration is really updated. I only remember how stressful it was when I had to register my son…every day watching at TV text to see demand don’t overflow.
P1 registration really not play play, like what jedamum mentioned.

If you didnt have the chance nor time to do PV, then I hope you’re staying within 1km. 2004 had the lowest birth rate, that is another reason you have a better chance getting your child into the school of choice.

Education is a pressure cooker - principals put pressure on teachers and then teachers apply pressure on kids/parents. I just returned from parent-teacher meeting from son’s school. In time to come, most if not all schools will be equally stressful. That’s why I’m putting my gal in my former school (Phase 2A2) and bypass Phase 1.

My son is in a SAP school within 1 km of home. Daughter is guaranteed a place under Phase 1. Hubby and I came to a decision not to put daughter in same school bcos it’s really stressful, esp after hearing what the teachers said about P5…fast pace, preparation for P6 and loads of hw.

When we registered son for P1 under Phase 2B, we were monitoring the TV text as if buying/selling shares…but it’s not. Instead, we were looking at vacancies left daily and if confirmed of a place.

Yes we do stay within 1KM but then looking at the growing demad of the school and more number of ppl doing PV looks like not very bright chance.... but still :xedfingers:

LKVM, then you really need to pray that luck is on your side. My friend lives right opposite West Grove, and still missed out during 2C balloting.

I did not do much research, but has been asking around and read the forum here.. My conclusion is RVPS is average in the academic... but I heard from a few of my friends that RVPS is strong in Chinese and good in character development. The principal is new and previously he id with St. Hilda Primary School.. So I really hope he will be able to push up RVPS academic standard..

I decided to go RVPS is because I scare to go thru the balloting stress. Actually at first, my first choice is Fairfield which is within 2km from my house. It is nearer, save time for kid to travel and it has student care within the school compound. But after doing some research, the chances getting into Fairfield is very slim…. However, I can register my son in Phase 2A2 for RVPS.

So which school is your first choice now?

I'll probably go for RVPS now. Our plan is to send our kids to local primary schools to build up a solid foundation in Chinese and Math. Then they'll go to international school to prepare for universities in the U.S. (if we can still afford it that is ). So PSLE results is not our top concern. RVPS's strength in Chinese and character development are more important factors to us.

My DD will be registering for P1 this year. Now we're aiming for River Valley Primary. Which SAP school is your son at now? If it's within 1km then wouldn't it be more convenient for your DD?

Although it’s convenient for us, but we want to put her in my former school bcos there is affiliation to sec school. Given the higher cut-off point for schools with no affiliation to sec school, I want to have 1 less worry for my daughter.

I see. Having affiliation is definitely a plus point. Much less pressure in PSLE so more time to enjoy her childhood

Hi Minnie,

Having affiliation reduces stress at P6...kids from schools with no affiliation have to compete to get into schools like SJI or ACS esp those who born in Dragon year like my son.

I also found out CHIJ TP will be going morning session from P1 onwards starting from next year. That is another reason why I wish to put her there.
