Hi E3
Can you be more specific on what kind of mistakes? My dd's Math paper was cosmetic error (number option printed wrongly), cost her 2 marks. :stupid: If the errors for science paper is contentwise, then I seriously doubt the ability of the science vetters. Either they (or he) are (is) not familiar with the syllabus and what needed to be taught in each level (in the case of Jennifer's son, P3), or they (he) is incompetent.tweet:
Hi Donkey
this P6 CA1 Science Paper also has a question that has mistake, so everyone awarded 2 marks. wonder what HOD Science and teachers are doing!!Did they checked the paper carefully? guess not, if not there wont be any mistake.
just came bac from PTM. ask about the MCQ Q15.
Question is about cells, given a graph and statements made in the form of A,B,C,D and teacher said Statement A has dispute so this Q15 considered void. I don know how to scan and upload in this forum, if not i can ask for your opinion on this.
From this forum,seems to me that questions set in Science papers have problems one way or another. -

I guess I will need to refresh my science knowledge to help my dd. I am getting rusty.
If the science papers have confusing questions or misleading concepts, I will have to ensure she is very clear in her understanding of the concepts as well as being able to apply 'smart' exam techniques to eliminate those that are wrong for MCQ. Is it still the same, 60% (30 questions) MCQ and 40% Open-ended (20 Questions)? Instead of losing faith in PH's science standard, I guess we'll just have to take it into our own owns.E3:
I clarified the 'full-stop' for the compre question with my dd's FT. It is confirmed that the fullstop after quoting the sentence cannot be omitted. The EL teachers held a meeting to come to a consensus. So much hassle for a tiny punctuation that costs only half a mark. Still, better to get it clarified once and for all.Hi, I would like to know how your kids are taught to answer the comprehension question that requires them to refer to a sentence in the passage. Are they told to omit the fullstop after the quotes or to include it? For eg, the child wrote:
The sentence is \"That is a flower.\".
I am referring to the fullstop after the closing quotes. I realised there were some inconsistencies in how the kids were instructed by their respective EL teachers. -
Hi Mummies,
We returned from PTM at about 930am…reached school early and managed to speak to teachers.
The usual complaints - easily distracted, careless and never check, and talkative.
Teachers have informed us that they are going full steam after the 1 week holiday, so I guess homework will be as bad, if not more. -
janet_lee88:
No offence, but my dd's teacher said all the opposite from your ds. haha. :lol: She said she is very quiet in class, needs to speak up. Looks like our education system still does not cater or accept that boys tend to be more boisterous, unless you are in a boys' school.Hi Mummies,

Don't see it as a complaint, maybe can try and accept, then work around it. I don't have boys but I guess I wouldn't want my boys to be too quiet.

E3,
FT told us that the boys in her class are talkative and boisterous. My daughter is exactly the same.
Oh yes, I need to get him to work on more Comprehension, Vocab and Synthesis (connectors). -

I expect my child's FT to be telling me that later. Btw, did you bring along your child for PTM? I am thinking of gg alone.Hi Mummies,

IJJ,
We didn’t bring son along for PTM for the past 2 years. Wanted to make a quick run…so just went early this morn and get it done and over with. Impt thing is to meet his teachers. -
IJJ:
It's really up to you. The same piece of advice are sometimes better put forward by their teachers. When the child listened to their teachers speak in front of their parents, he or she might see the importance. For eg: I told my dd she should read more chi story books, but till now, not much effect till the chi teacher gave her the advice just now, then she realised the importance. Hopefully, she'll pick up chi books to read like how she picked up her Eng ones now. I could use her teacher's advice as a reminder.
I expect my child's FT to be telling me that later. Btw, did you bring along your child for PTM? I am thinking of gg alone.

Thanks, Janet & E3.

Hi, just to share with u, i had managed to talk to the science HOD and this is what he said, as per my understading:
1. Instead of stating the number of stages of the life cycle, we shld classify it in a broader sense, just like what 'mothernlight' had stated earlier in the thread:
Cat 1: egg -> nymph -> adult
Cat 2: egg -> larva -> pupa -> adult
Cat 3: egg -> young -> adult
Basically, most animals will go through this cycles, starting with eggs. So in this case, the duck and tiger go through similar stages in the life cycle.
He also think that those authors who wrote assessment/reference books should not have actually state the 2-stage life cycles, which is very misleading.
2. As for the plant, he said not look into too much detail as it is only taught, at primary level, leaves are food making machines. Without leaves, plant cannot make food and will die eventually. He said to leave the details till secondary school.
Sorry to dwell on this again and hope this is helpful.
