it is often mentioned that psle should not be seen as such a major part of life and that there are many more major exams in life...but how can any parent not be anxious when it determines what stream the child goes to???arielgetz:
I often think that parents are the ones who are stressed out and anxious, much more than the children. while I know that there is more to life than exams, and PSLE is only a part, the education system makes it difficult for me to fully let go.
You are not wrong to feel it this way becos this is what MOE wants us parents to be like that.
On one hand, they say we shouldn't be stressed by all external exams set by them but on the other hand, they keep raising the standards.
So can we be blamed for feeling anxious?
standards keep raising. many children are still trying to reach the bar...even before they can do so, the bar is raised. this is crazy. coaching the children becomes parents' responsibility as well. for those who can't coach, the children are outsourced. -
The schools are teaching less so that kids are learning more… I feel that parents end up teaching our kids so that they are learning more just to keep out!

Schools are teaching just the minimum. In today's context, parents are very much involved to make sure their kids are kept in the loop. -

I will be honest. DD has Chinese and Math tuition. Chinese since preschool and Math only starting this year. She will still pass both subjects without tuition. Just that Chinese most probably at 60+ max and Math at 70+ max. Still a pass.
I do not do much for both her English and Science actually aside from bringing her to Popular to pick out some assessments and resources and printing past years' exam papers come exam period.
Jia you parents and kids, stay positive.

no...it's the worry of whether the child goes to express or normal which makes parents kancheong.
But in reality, it's not MOE that is making you kancheong...it's the next kid who could score full or close to full marks that is making you kancheong. No?zbear:
