May I know more about this new campus as part of school selection consideration for my dd
- where is it and when will it be moving to this new campus
- appreciate any other helpful information about it

Hi, not sure if anyone's asked this question before as I'm new to this thread...


May I know how the Year 1s are classed? Do they separate the GEPpers from the Mainstreamers? For Mainstreamers, are they classed according to their T-scores? Will the lower classes be given less priorities / opportunities or be outcast by the GEPpers?

Also, may I know what the culture is like? Is it a caring and sharing environment? Cos I've heard some of the girls tend to be self-centred as compared to the other girls' school (sorry, no offense meant here)...

From a parent's perspective....

1. RGS has a good culture. It believes in students empowerment and cultivate self-learning and independent learning skills and attitudes.

2. Kids are more self-centered these days and RGS girls are not any more self-centered from girls of other schools. The areas where I see the girls being less self-centered are:
- the seniors support the juniors as the students are empowered to do so.
- the seniors compile study materials by subjects and share with their juniors.
- the seniors peer coach the juniors

Hi all , look at the matter, can I say that the student there mostly are very smart and I always hear from my girl school parents said that the pupils are high class human??? I am very concerns whether my girl can cook there ??? I am a mother and as father parent!! Hope can see more opinions from the yours. Thanks.

From a parent's perspective...

1. Yes, the girls are generally very smart and highly motivated, otherwise they will not be able to get into RGS.

2. As for high class, it depends on which class you are currently in. For my girl who came from a girls' primary school with more higher class people, my girl said that she felt poor in her primary school but felt rich in her secondary school. This tells you there are more normal class people in RGS.

3. As for cooking, the girls have a term of cooking during their first 2 years as cooking, sewing, music and dance are on modular basis. Do not expect your girl to know how to cook or become a good cook from a few weeks of lessons unless she is very interested in cooking. If you want her to learn cooking, you are probably the best person to teach her and learning starts from home.

The new campus is at Braddell Road, opposite RI at Bishan, taking over the former Braddell-Westlake Secondary School premise. They will operate from the new campus from 2018.

Did you take any 3rd language? Any advice which one is interesting to do?

I used to take MSP (Malay Special Programme) for 2 years because of its convenience (held in school), but I guess for 3rd language, it should be fine to choose based on your daughters preference!

But do make sure your child will be able to commit to the 3rd language, because many people end up dropping out after taking the 3rd language due to increasing commitments etc. along the way from year 1 to year 4.


Interesting to do wise, I think all of them would be interesting, especially those really foreign languages like japanese, french, German and Spanish!

Spanish wasn't offered in my year I agree it takes so much commitment to do 3rd Lang, and often it drove me crazy. But you know, there are always people busier than you and yet coping better. So it's about management and passion, some people continue to take the subject out of passion, not because of how well they do in it.

There's a lot of difference between GG and GB, until now we have yet to really come to terms with it hahaha. I'd say they are very different, regarding what they value, their mottos, their history- everything is different. And of course they do different things during sessions as well! What i do know is that GB is a Christian organisation, so they do hymns and stuff!! Why not give it a research?

Hi May I know what are the timing for the 3rd Lang? My DD wants to take Jap so will all the girls taking Jap travel together to the lang centre? Is it the one @ newton? Tks
