May I have a confirmation?
When you ascertain the top-scorer for your respective schools, is the bonus 3 points for HCL taken into consideration?
I would think it should not be as non-Chinese students to do actually have a chance to utilise this 3 bonus points for S1 posting…

Sigh....[/quote]The student who screwed up might struggle in a school full of four a*. Why not let the system post the student to another good school and learn at a more manageable pace? Might be good for the student who is not an all rounder to learn at a slower pace. Not all students go RI ACSI HCI then go uni, some student must go o level, ITE, poly then university and the new system might be a way to guide these non all rounders or late bloomer students to a path more suitable for them without the stigma of having to live with a good t score they think is too low but is still good.
How to allocate points for 3A* 1A versus 2A*2A when there is a possiblity the overall result for 2A*2A might be higher than 3A* 1A? Unduly penalised the 2A*2A student le.sleepy:

All I can say is am I glad my kids are no longer in Primary School.
I now cant wait for them to finish their education in this SO OBSESSED N COMPETITIVE SINGAPORE. -
We have three national exams in Singapore but the PSLE is the most stressful. This is because everyone sitting for the PSLE has the same aim of getting into a good secondary school.
Whereas for O and A levels, the candidates have different goals. Some people aim for JC while some people aim for Poly. At A levels, there are different Universities with different programmes. Unlike PSLE, everyone has the same aim. -

I don't agree the point of bekitha. Learning Chinese language is important for Chinese people. Unfortunately , student regardless primary and secondary, student write Chinese words is very less so that students don't like Chinese language any more. Ten years back, one new Chinese word student need write at least twenty times. Nowadays my girl only write 3 times for new word. Student can not remember these words. As parents I need ask my girl to write these words for another 5 times again. Chinese and English are more on hard working. If u read more books, write more words, these two subjects can be improved a lot. Hope moe need ask student to write more words for these two subjects.

What I am suggesting doesn't make MT or in your case Chinese any less important. I do agree that learning Mother Tongue is important. Not only for the Chinese but the other races as well. I am effectively billingual, having scored A* and A1 for my Psle and O levels respectively but I did well as I came from a chinese speaking background and languages were my strength. Thus I also scored well for my psle. But I really pity many children nowadays who had to spend so many hours on Chinese academic tuition and yet couldn't excel in Chinese. Often the long hours they spent on their MT became a liability to them and make them reject their MT even more.
If MT is taken out from the computation of T score and given bandings instead, the focus of parents will be to concentrate more on inculcating the beauty of Chinese culture and language, rather than learning to excel in exams. This would have far reaching positive effects on our next gen's interest in the language. -

Given that PSLE is the 1st national exam and aiming for choice schools, inevitably, most parents would want their children to perform their utmost best . Then this is where the real stress level kicks in. -
