Dear KSPs

My child got 247 + 2. Would like to hear your views on the following choices:
1. CGS
2. Nan hua high
3. Bukit panjang high
4. Scgs
5. Commonwealth
6. Fairfield methodist

We stay in the west. Thanks!
Do u think it is wi5shful thinking to consider scgs ip for appeal? Did not put it first because do not want to take risk

You have 6 choices... Its ok to risk one or two... Nobody knows what will happen in the posting or appeal.... In my opinion its worth a try.

I do agree that it's ok to risk one or two choices, however, I have always thought that the IP track is meant for t-scores of 250 and above.
At the appeal stage, its principle discretion.

Hi all,

You guys can use this link for reference as it is the most accurate COP of 2013 for all the sch as it take in the last student count of the student getting accepted by the sch including Appeal case.

http://www.post1.net/biow/entry/2013_ps ... econdary_1

Interesting! Wondering how did the website keep track of the Appeal cases? The COPs for the first 4 schools listed at the top of the table are the same as that announced on the MOE website. I don't think these has taken the Appeal cases into consideration.

Please take note that COP is derive from supply & demand of the sch vacancy. If all the vacancy have been filled up by the COP of the year 2012 then the COP of 2013 will remain same as 2012. Vice visa if they demand drop, then the cop of 2012 will have to drop a point or 2 inorder to filled up all the vacancy. This also include Appeal case if certain percentage of posted student to their sch wanna transfer out.
This is the reason why RI & RGS COP drop much from 265 to 259

This is first time for me posting here. My daughter was a RGPS girl and scored 252. I think she wont be able to make to RGS. that’s a great disappointment for her as she was doing quite good in school exams. Anyway can anybody suggest me which are the school I will put in selection order so that she get best out of her score. Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

You can consider scgs ip and cedar ip.

Please take note that Appealing case is a Musical chair routine happen in every sec sch every year as there are always some students not happy with the S1 posting and they will definitely go Appeal to their dream sch. Hence, this create vacancy for others to filled the space. It’s a 50/50 chance. If there are ppl

go, then there will be ppl coming in. And of cos it’s up to the principal discretion too.

Hey guys

i have a score of 258 (without adding HCL), do i have a chance in getting into raffles institution? or should i put hwa chong institution as my first choice?

Put RI as your first choice. If you can’t get in, then appeal.

I am quite sure you can get into HCI even if you put it as your 2nd choice. So, please don’t waste your 1st choice. You should put RI as your first choice.

My son was in your position last year.

thx
did ur son appeal? if he did ,did he appeal successfully? and what should i bring for appeal? previous results or achievements like UNSW competition?
Yes, he appealed. Successfully appealed.

When you appealed online, the website will tell you what to submit. It didn’t mention any personal statement or recommendation from teacher but I asked my son to write personal statement and I also got a letter from his form teacher and CCA teacher. As letters from teachers may take a while, it is better you ask for the letters now.

You need to sell something about yourself. Don’t only highlight academic achievement because RI already has many students that are outstanding in their academic achievement. You need to highlight your leadership skills, sports achievement, music/art achievement, CCA achievement, community service, etc.

Hope you’ll get into RI. All the best to you!
Thankiew!

You can consider scgs ip and cedar ip.

last year (2013), Cut off point for CHIJ St Nicholas IP was 255.

does your dd have Higher Mother Tongue (Chinese) ?
if your dd has Higher Mother Tongue : example +3, perhaps she may consider St Nicholas IP, with 252+3, since St Nicholas is a SAP school, you can use Higher Mother Tongue, to help.
But provided this year (2014) St Nicholas IP Cut off Point doesn't shoot up to 256.

because between St Nicholas IP and SCGS IP :-
St Nicholas is more popular than SCGS,

partly because :-
- some parents prefer a SAP school environment,

- some parents prefer a mission oriented Secondary school environment,

- school fees for IP at St Nicholas affordable to many parents, at $ 28 per month : compared to SCGS IP, around $ 300 per month.
moreover, come Y5 and Y6 A level preparation: these two All Girls' Secondary schools eventually merge together into the newly formed government Junior College, 2017.
Thus, from the perspective of final last 2 crucial years A level in Y5 and Y6 at new JC -
it doesn't matter anymore whether your dd previously studied in St Nicholas Sec, or come from SCGS Sec.

as for Cedar IP -
Cedar is popular, because of Victoria Junior College, come Y5 and Y6.
2015 Sec 1 intake only 150 for IP, plus another 150 for O level -

150 vacancies for Cedar IP is inclusive of -
- Appeal cases, plus

- all those that had already accepted Dsa offer (by Sports, by Academic) into Cedar, plus

- all those going to be allocated by MOE, based on able to meet Cut off entry point into Cedar

besides SCGS IP, Cedar IP :
your dd may also consider Temasek Junior College IP.

SCGS, Cedar, TJC are non-SAP schools.
So, your dd can only base upon 252 to enter.
Higher Mother Tongue not applicable, in these 3 schools.
