My DS get 254+2 in PSLE, below is our options, anyone can give us comments if this is ok or too risky for ACS-IP


1. ACS -IB (253)
2. ACS - O (249)
3. Catholic high -O (249)
4. St Joseph - O (245)
5. Anderson - O (246)

1. Whether student A with 253 + 2 will be given priority over student B with 252 + 3 if both choose the same SAP school as first choice?

2. Whether student C with 252 +3 will be given priority over student D with 253 + 1 if both choose the same SAP school as first choice?

You can consider scgs ip and cedar ip.

last year (2013), Cut off point for CHIJ St Nicholas IP was 255.

does your dd have Higher Mother Tongue (Chinese) ?
if your dd has Higher Mother Tongue : example +3, perhaps she may consider St Nicholas IP, with 252+3, since St Nicholas is a SAP school, you can use Higher Mother Tongue, to help.
But provided this year (2014) St Nicholas IP Cut off Point doesn’t shoot up to 256.

because between St Nicholas IP and SCGS IP :-
St Nicholas is more popular than SCGS,

partly because :-
- some parents prefer a SAP school environment,

- some parents prefer a mission oriented Secondary school environment,

- school fees for IP at St Nicholas affordable to many parents, at $ 28 per month : compared to SCGS IP, around $ 300 per month.
moreover, come Y5 and Y6 A level preparation: these two All Girls’ Secondary schools eventually merge together into the newly formed government Junior College, 2017.
Thus, from the perspective of final last 2 crucial years A level in Y5 and Y6 at new JC -
it doesn’t matter anymore whether your dd previously studied in St Nicholas Sec, or come from SCGS Sec.


as for Cedar IP -
Cedar is popular, because of Victoria Junior College, come Y5 and Y6.
2015 Sec 1 intake only 150 for IP, plus another 150 for O level -

150 vacancies for Cedar IP is inclusive of -
- Appeal cases, plus

- all those that had already accepted Dsa offer (by Sports, by Academic) into Cedar, plus

- all those going to be allocated by MOE, based on able to meet Cut off entry point into Cedar


besides SCGS IP, Cedar IP :
your dd may also consider Temasek Junior College IP.

SCGS, Cedar, TJC are non-SAP schools.
So, your dd can only base upon 252 to enter.

Hi thanks for all the suggestions. I was also thinking the same way. How is her chance for NJC? I know last year it was 255+ I think base on our location and not having any HMT SCGS will be ideal for her. Donno whether SCGS IP COP this year will also be below 252. Without HMT is it possible to go to SAP school like CHIJ St Nicholas IP … as I heard a lot about this school. Thanks again. rgds

First thing to note is that there are 13 decimal places behind the 252 or 253 ....

so, it is unlikely ever any two candidates will have exactly the same score whether it is 252+3 or 253+2 or any other combination

bonus point from HCL has the same standing as the points from the four core subjects, as far as SAP schools are concerned.

May I ask if you’ve any advice on Maris Stella Sec? Actually, my son’s more on Eng speaking based, do you think I should put Maris Stella before Chung Cheng Main & Nan Hua although COP for the later both schools are higher than Maris Stella at 236.

I have very reliable information that an SAP school will choose a 252+3 over a 253+2 or a 254+1. To the SAP school, the final aggregate score is the same: 255, so they will pick the one with better HMT performance.

I cannot comment on the decimal point thing because I have no reliable information for that.

Your #1 choice CHS is express or IP?

You stay in central? How come it's an hour from Bishan? Or do you stay in Rochor/Bras Basah/Farrer Central planning zone?

Nowadays kids mostly speak in english.... Maris stella is brother school of catholic high and enjoy bonus points for cjc.

All 3 are sap schools, if your kids prefer boys schools, can consider acsi and maris stella
