Japanese Lang is conducted at MOELC @ Bishan..

Thanks ngl2010. We never thought abt 3rd lang hence wanted to find out more before investing his time in an extra subject which he can do the same lang outside at a shorter time if it is just for interest. Dun want him to be overloaded though he said dun mind giving it a shot since he likes Japanese.


We dun have any MRT near us ..so MRT is out .

Hi all, may I l know normally what is the dismiss time on Friday? As my DS has his own violin lesson outside, not sure if time is enough for him to catch the lesson.

Dismiss time on Friday is 12.30pm. In the first semester year 1, there will be meetings with PSLs on Fridays. My DS attended the meetings but one parents in KSP said the meetings are actually optional.

Merit CCAs are usually held on Friday afternoons.

Most Core CCAs usually have practices on Friday afternoons too.

if you have merit cca (eg math club because you are in Euler program), it could be 2pm- 3/4pm...so effectively whole of friday afternoon till ... late hours, is CCA

but no worry, they will learn to cope, and toughen up

To add to Pirated's posting, some sports CCA and other types of CCA also have practices on Monday.

Tuesday is set aside for 3rd languages.

This is naggo-nitemare’s DS.


AEP and 3rd Lang can be taken simultaneously in year 1 and year 2. In fact, I know of a year 2 who takes 3rd Lang, art and computer elective.

However, in year 3 and year 4, the MOELC 3rd languages and AEP are both held on Tuesdays. MEP too, I believe. (Not sure about MSP and CSP.) when you pick subject combinations for year 3, you can only pick one elective. (Electives are the extra subjects such as MEP, AEP, CEP and 3rd Lang) I do know of people who appealed to do more than one elective and were allowed to do so. However, this would only be possible if they do not clash. It is possible to transfer classes for 3rd Lang in MOELC, eg if your Friday is free, you can transfer to the Friday class. I think the RI-run ones (CSP, MSP) cannot be changed.

A few more things haven’t been answered.

1. I am pretty sure any elective can be dropped at the end of each semester. This is true for 3rd languages, though I’m not completely certain about the rest. However, if one does not wish to continue taking the elective in Y3, then he can just not pick it while choosing the subject combination, effectively dropping it.

2. About the workload for 3rd language (note this only applies to the MOELC ones as I’m not too sure about MSP and CSP): lessons are once a week, on Tuesdays, in the MOELC Bishan campus. They are 3h15min long. (3h and a 15min break in between) The homework itself isn’t much: there are a few online exercises each week, which can be done in less than half an hour. There might also be written homework, but I don’t think that there is really that much. As for whether one can remember the vocab and grammar…it depends on interest, I guess. If one is interested, one would subconsciously think about it more, which would aid in learning the language. Just like any other subject, if you’re interested in it and are willing to work hard, you’ll be rewarded.

MOELC 3rd Lang end of years are always a couple of weeks before the RI end of year exams, which means that you can focus on it more when the exam is near and get the exam over with early. AEP, MEP, MSP and CSP exams are on the next school day after the last exam, so they’d have to be studied for at the same time as the rest of the subjects. (AEP and MEP exams are held concurrently, so one can’t take both. MSP and CSP exams are also held concurrently, but you can’t have 2 3rd languages anyway)

3. 3rd Lang/any elective can replace geog/hist in Y1 and Y2 in GPA computation if it scores higher. The Y3 and Y4 GPA computation is messier but you can replace math 1 or math 2, or a science, or a humanities subject, as long as at least one math, one science, and one humanities is factored in. It’s quite complicated but suffice it to say that it’s more flexible than Y1 and Y2. Do note that English and Chinese cannot be substituted out.
