In my opinion, the most important thing is cultivate their self-study abilities. Parents cannot help them forever.
If the subject is too hard to your child, going for a tuition.
but on the other hand, for child, they r not only need time listening in the classroom, also need time to absorb the knowledge on their own. -
Hi,
I didn’t provide tuition for my boy for science until primary 5 where there was a dip in his results.
Plus, the school teacher in school was quite a disappointment so I had a big struggle with results. It depends, but I regretted quite a bit. I always think to give them time but now, I have a change of my mind. Discipline them from young so I searched high and low for assistance. I think a guidance is very sensitive issue, not only educationally competent plus my child, is so talkative so group is not an option for me.
I don’t want to go back to the struggle I had with my p5 but it was quite a mess. I think it’s trial after trial and I trust parents’ experiences more and now, I keep close contact with parents, to actually find someone who teach for learning and most importantly, help me keep an eye on my children’s progress and attitude. Like I said, cultivate and concept application.
Overall, personal preference. Good luck! -
Having tuition is really the choice of the parents/ child. Despite being a tuition agency, our advice is not to overwhelm students at an early age. As a parent myself, we can always tutor kids in our own time and supervise their learning and understanding of concepts before the syllabus becomes too tough for us to handle. Despite playing a small role in their education (as a teacher), parental involvement is really important for students have have a good grasp of the syllabus. The foundation of a child is something that has to be built with a quality education.
However, if you see your child lagging behind in math in p2/3, it would be quite imperative to seek help as it would impact their grades in the future. For sciences, do check on your child to check how they are dealing with the new subject before introducing tuition. Whenever a parent can handle it, personally tutoring the child would be a great motivation to the child and looking back, I’m sure the child would really appreciate the role that you have played in their education.
