There was a small slip of paper that lists the sections tested in CA1 for CL. Did you still hv that piece of note?

For CL CA1, wan2 cheng2 dui4 hua4 was introduced this year. Mummies with kids in P3 may want your kids to practice more wan2 cheng2 ju4 zi3 because it will help your kids next year.

That's the assessment book I bought. Strangely I cant find this assessment book for P5 :roll:

According to CL teacher, duan3 wen2 tian2 kong1 is a section which tests children on their level of spoken Chinese. It is the Chinese version of 'cloze passage'.

These past few days, I've been getting my boy to read, practice comprehension and cloze passages.

I find most CL assessment books std low compared to PH.


My elder boy went through many such CL assessment books, but sch results so-so only. I think to get to PH std, really must drill a lot and also read a lot. JMHO

I buy the higher chinese assessment books for my son, but still some titles are rather easy and doesn't help much. You can look at this authors - Jiang Xiao Hong or Wu Li Jun. These are more difficult.

I agree. For Chinese assessment books, I have to get P3 Comprehension Champion and P4 Look Think Write. Popular does not hv the lower Pri versions for Look Think Write. I have not started on the Look Think Write but had taught her Mind Mapping for Chinese Compo. Will use the ideas or examples from the Look Think Write book to assess her. P2 is 看图写话 but still it requires them to expand from all helping words given so it's almost like writing an essay.

Regarding assessment books, tutor told me to get a tougher one because the comprehension passages will be challenging and kind of preparation for upper primary.

need advice if PH is really very academic driven as what most people say?
is it very results oriented and also heard that they stream the students very year from P1 based on results? people also say they will allocate the best teachers to the best classes and those in the middle and lower end will get lousy teachers and a lot of relief teachers? Are the teachers caring in general whether is best or worst class? isn’t it suppose to be a holistic school given that it is a mission school??? so worried to send my boy there cos he is not too bright…
