All About Full-Time Maids

Hi,

I need advises on how to let my maid go back Indonesia as her husband and father pass away suddenly. Do I have to go Indonesia Embassy to get the letter or KTLN card? Also will I be able to get the document on the same day? Very concerned as I am left with only 2 days leave.
My maid agency told me that Indonesia embassy only open on mon-thurs. Realized it only today that it also open.
My maid only works for me a year but she actually has a lot problems. Wont be renewing her contract next year dec.
she wants to go back asap and only for 3 days.
Also do I have to get the letter or ktln card from Indonesia embassy before buying air tkt?Can I buy air tkt first?

I don’t know for sure what the current situation is. But this is what I had to do the first time my Indon FDW went home for a holiday:
had to take her to Indon Embassy to get my address endorsed in her passport. This had nothing to do with the KTKLN, it was way before the KTKLN was introduced.

Btw, please be mentally prepared that your FDW will probably not be returning to Singapore to complete her contract.

I have 2 young kids, one is 2.5yo n 8mo. Very fed up with maids cos everytime check on CCTV saw they always din fullfil the chores we tell them to do like mopping , wash toilets. Reminded several times still can say they have already done the chores. I really feel like going maidless or resort to part time maids . But is the cooking part which I don know how I should handle . Any one has any ideas? Or just listen to most of them say close 1 eye since my kiddos r still small n really need a 3rd helping hand. But close 1 eye to wat extend??

Sorry to hear this as being thru it; we suffer since kids on board, has no family support, finally kids are 9yo and 13yo. DH still want maid as dont want kids and himself to do houseworks but maid Q is :nosebleed:

Taz, u have bad experience with maids too? Do we really need to close 1 eye till vomit blood for the sake of the kids.

How long have your maid been with you? First of all, is she hired to do housework or childcare? If she takes care of both the kids, and she does a good job with that, and she can prepare dinner for everyone, then yes, attitude okay, just leave her alone. So you manage expectations. You could ask her to mop the floor every morning. By the time you wake up, floor is clean. Wash the toilet while you watch over the kids.

However, if she does nothing well or nothing correctly, then perhaps it is better off with another maid, or go maidless. I do have friends that works full-time with 2 young kids, and maidless. And to adjust, they order tingkat for some days, and cook simple dishes for other days. More work for everyone (incl children), but in time they cope and are doing very well. Kids are very independent, and parents are very happy and also independent, both parents are involved so the relationship is also very close.

My elder kid goes to Childcare n baby at nanny place. So basically is she alone at home doing housework n preparing dinner. Of cos on weekends she will need to help up on the kids portion . Just found her doing lesser & everytime needs reminder so in a way become a chore for me. Everyday sweep, mop, do laundry , ironing and cook is not too demanding I guess? Sometimes managing maids make pp mentally exhausted . I tot of ordering tingkat but is it unhealthy for a 2yo boy? I always envy couples who can cope by themselves & wondered how they manage to do it.

Just went maidless two months ago n never look back. Kids are in children during the day and we make do with simple dinner. Usually one vegetables n one soup. On days when my hb n i are tired or lazy to cook. We will bring the kids out to eat. When cooking, i tried to wake up earlier n prepare the ingredients, and put them in slow cooker to cook the soup. Then cut the vegetables n put them in fridge. B4 i step out of the house, i turn on the rice cooker. Once reach home, stir fry the vegetables with some meat n dinner is ready.

For housework, i usually wash the clothes at night after dinner while kids play or revise their work.

I am maid less as my maid has gone back for home leave. Am not sure if she will be returning. As I am home during this period, I re-looked at everything which she is required to do to assess if a maid is really necessary. My children are 10 and 14. My only issue is cooking as we only reach home from work after 8.30pm if it is a good day. The other housework is not an issue. Once I am able to workaround this meal issue, I will not need a maid.


Believe that in your case, the adults can eat out while a simple meal can be prepared for your 2 year old. This is what my friends who are maid less do. They either prepare porridge or steam egg/meat for their kids. One of them managed to get the childcare to provide dinner for the kid for an extra fee.
