When you marinate the meat the night before, do you put the meat in the freezer or in the 2nd compartment? If put in the 2nd compartment, can the freshness be maintained?

My main concern is cooking as I want my kids to have home-cooked food but I only reach home at 6:30pm, how to finish cooking in time within an hour or less? As I prefer the kids to have dinner as early as possible if they go childcare since the last snack they have is at 3pm.

Anyone can share how you prepare your cooking? Usually i will try to have 1 veg, 1 soup and 1 meat dish. Have to add on, I am not a good cook and I rely a lot on recipe books!

As Mrs KS pointed out, you can use slow cooker. Before I got a steam oven, I used thermal pot for soups/braised meats, rice cooker for rice and stir fry everything else.

Prep everything the night before eg marinate the meat and cut any melons for soups. Wake up early enough to boil the soup in the thermal pot for at least 15 mins, put in thermal pot holder and the soup will be done by the time you get home. Just need a quick boil to heat up.

Immediate after you get home, start the rice cooking and take the marinated meat out of the fridge. I recall the turbo function means the rice cooks in 30 mins. While rice cooking away, you can wash the veg. Then cook the meat followed by veg. I never tried steaming food using rice cooker but I believe a few mummies do that. So you could steam egg or meat with the rice.

I've now cut away the soup and cook that occasionally. Takes a lot of effort and we only drink the soup whilst everything else in the pot gets thrown. My dinner prep is down to 20 mins with a steam oven. I cook everything in the steam oven, including rice. I stir fry the veg only cos DD prefers stir fry taste. But I steam the veg most of the times.

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

Hi I can feel you. My maid behaviour makes me boil too. Sometimes it makes us feel like we are the bad guys, don't understand their feelings or being inhuman . C'mon, these are the pp who turned us to be nasty too. Like what you say, I am thinking of giving up employing a maid too. Rather resort to other help like part time maid. You can consider that options too?

Same situation as you here, love1001.

My hus and I are the most lenient employers.. we allow maid to use hp at night, they have their own room, they can go for 2 to 3 off days per month. I have 2 kids but one of them goes to childcare and the other is cared for by my mum. That's why we need a maid to assist with housework and cooking.

I employed a total of 5 maids in 3 years. The problems with maids, you name it, i get it. Maid who have family probs and wanted to go back, maid who was so homesick she refused to work, maid who was so blur she cannot remember things, maid who lies and steals, maid whose skin is so thin that she always asked to leave after a scolding (for her repeated mistake).

Just like that, the maids come and go as they wish, while i have to do everything on my own when I am suddenly left with no help.. not that I am complaining but I could spend more quality time with my kids if I have an extra pair of helping hands. My time after work now is to feed the kids, bathe the kids and do all the necessary daily housework before I have time on my own.

I do not have a supportive hus in terms of housework. He did ask me to employ another maid again, but I was the one who insisted to try out coping without one. Because I am so paranoid of getting another bad maid... Then I have to spend a lot again.

I don think I am so great till I would provide vitamins for helpers. With the frequent visit to doc, it cost a bomb. We already have 2 young kids at home n now I have to take care of another young adult. I believe helpers have the responsibility to take care of themselves so they can continue to work properly. Just like our boss expect us to take care of ourselves so that we won’t take too many mc.

Many say to avoid eating chicken/eggs when having cough. But chicken soup helps to break up the mucus. So can the kids take chicken soup when they cough??
