It looks like COP has dropped across the schools.
I seem to get the impression all along that the school sets the COP for ACSI IB. It doesn’t seem to work on a demand & supply way like other schools. Pls correct me if I’m wrong.
There is not a great deal of difference between O level and express for year 1 & 2. There is still chance to get into IB at Year 3.[/quote]
Thanks Zeemimi -
Acsi parents need your advice. DS posted to SAP IP . 252+2. Didn’t get acsi ip. I called acsi today. Cop is 252. They said no appeal for ip at all. Suggest go express first then transfer.
It’s a risk I feel cos what if can’t transfer? How do they select yr 2 students to transfer.? And any idea whatare the chances? Why are there more vacancy in yr 3? Do they increase the intake?
acsi express, is this very similar to other express course outside? -

:imcool: ACSI has a huge range of CCAs. My DS does not shine in CCAs but he is managing well with what we perceive as the 2nd most relaxing uniform group and a club. He had good year 1 experience in both academic and social. Honestly, I never expected it to be such a wonderful year. One of the highlights was the chartered MRT :imcool:
Hi spicyblackpepper, do you mind sharing what you think is the 2nd most relaxing uniform group (and what is the most relaxing)? Thanks! -

Thanks zeemimi. We thought no point forcing him to do stuff he doesn't like now. He will have plenty of marching / drilling come NS anywaymitchlai:
Just checked and my son got posted here. Any advise on the uniform group to choose which has the least amount of outdoors / drills / marching etc? My son is the nerdy type who prefers robotics!
Even if he prefers indoor stuff, the outdoor, drills & marching will certainly do him good.

The considerations for SAP IP & ACS express will be the difference in school fees and your son's liking for a more Chinese environment, as I presume it's compulsory to do HCL in SAP IP school.Acsi parents need your advice. As for ACS express transfer to IB at end of sec 2, it depends on year 1 & year 2 results, plus the HAST high ability test and interview results. Having said that, the school has allocated about 100 places for ACS express to IB places. Not sure if this number is cast in concrete as I do believe the school criteria is the student's suitability for the pre-IB curriculum. You may want to check with the school. There are also Express students who go on to IB after O levels. They also have affiliation points to go to ACJC for A levels.
The school prepares the boys well for O levels as you can see their past years' results.
My feel is - choose the school and curriculum your son is more comfortable with. Of course I am biased as I am more inclined to go for the IB for its broader based curriculum and critical tuning components, but the A levels is also tried and tested and a good choice. -

The ACS(I) Express course is not at all similar to other such courses. The reason for this dates back to the meetings we had in 2002 with Tharman, who was then at MOE. We had to design an express course that allowed students to move laterally into the IP course if they showed promise later in their careers.Acsi parents need your advice. DS posted to SAP IP . 252+2. They select Year 2 students who show significant improvements and actual achievement levels at the end of Year 1 and throughout Year 2. They must also be all-rounders and good time managers, as well as have a broad outlook and a positive attitude. There are more vacancies in Year 3 because there are more classes and also a slightly increased intake.
Chances of lateral transfer are very high for students who meet the criteria, very low for students who don't. Essentially, such a student should aim to have an 85% average across all subjects and a healthy CCA (and other activities) lifestyle. That's the kind of student we would admit by DSA into the IBDP at Year 5 anyway.

Thank you. This is very helpful. DS been offered SAP IP. So if complete 4 yrs IP, is it still possible to map over from IP to ACSI anytime before year 5?

IP students do not take O levels, so to transfer to another IP school is not so straightforward. I know of students who transfer, based on school results, school CCA and leadership qualities, and the all important interview. However, the number of such students is small, and if I am not mistaken, ACSI takes in more girls than boys after year 4, including the MGS IB girls.
IMHO, your boy already has a coverted place in IP, and if he is ok with an SAP environment, then he should plan for all 6 years in the school. His tscore is 252(?), so he can still give appeal a shot anyway, with the expectation that if he does not succeed, he can still opt to stay with the SAP school. No harm, only cannot buy uniform nor books yet pending appeal outcome, which is just 1 or 2 weeks' wait anyway. The SAP IP place is still confirmed for him, till and until he chooses to transfer out. I know of transfer cases even in the month of Jauary when school term starts. -
Acsi IB does not permit appeal. Only for Express.

Hi thinking mum,
U can submitt if u meet the cop of 252.

Just my thought.
